Pool 2 Sunday, April 11

Got out on Pool 2 for several hours yesterday and chose to do some exploration. Water temps in the mid-50’s and the flow still pumping pretty good.

Current seams and backwater flow is near ideal for pitching jigs/plastics. Main channel you need to go really heavy and move near the shorelines to fish effectively with jigs.

Did find walleyes on a nice current seam. Poking around on the main channel yielded a very large flathead catfish. Had to cut the line because my youngest son removed my net from the boat to go turtle hunting on the lake behind the house.

The crankbait bite may already be underway. A lot of boats headed south toward the stumpfields (but not me).

    No pics today…riding solo.

Cut the line because you had no net? Come on, wear your flathead knuckle burn like a badge of courage.

Actually…I didn’t want to bust my St Croix stick trying to hold the stick in one hand and lean over the side with heavy current and grab the fish with the other hand.

Glad to hear you found some willing biters Marty. I will need to do some more exploring and put in a little more time before I can figure it out I think.

Thanks for the report Marty. Glad to hear you found some fish. It looks like it may be fishing opener before I get a chance to get back down there. I have a feeling the walleyes will be going strong by then.

Thanks for the report Martin! I was down there as well with about the same results… Any size?? . Most all the fish yesterday for me were on hair. Didnt get into any cats though but did snag a couple carp! Alwas fun anyways. I would guess most those boys heading south are chasing bass right now. Hate to admit it but I did have some luck Saturday with largemouths and ran into a couple other guys chasing them too.

I was out on Sunday as well. What a beautiful day to be on the water. Spent most of our time working seams that were close to shore lines. The bite wasn’t on fire, but this 25″ post spawn girl inhaled a hair jig. The tug of the current can really fool a guy into thinking he has hooked a whopper! Don’t be fooled by the blood, I’d bet my favorite St. Croix that this gal is still swimming.

You should know it. We sat there long enough last time we were out. Nice fish Beno!
