Lower Unit gone-don’t let it happen to you

I was fishing with the Walleye Searchers on Sunday. we left out of Bay Point and I headed south with a few other boats. As soon as we got past the bridge we hit the throttles and were off for fun. I was lining up my boat with the next visible channel markers and up on plane. Wham! Engine alarm. Stopped and trimmed the motor up and the lower unit is gone completely. We looked for anything obvious and couldn’t see a thing. No ripples, no wakes no nothing. I looked at my map and it appears the first green marker out of Baypoint is missing and I suspect totally submerged. From the looks of the motor it hit something very hard that didn’t budge much. So please think about hanging to the Red side a bit on that stretch.

I guess it could have always been worse Tweak. Glad nobody was hurt.

Sounds like the same one that got mine…The green can I hit was towards the middle of the river by the power lines just before the bend.

That sucks but good to hear nobody was hurt. I guess I got lucky as I went through there atleast a half dozen times this weekend. Good news though the coast guard was in that area on Sunday doing work on the cans.

Sorry to hear that buddy. It is crazy out there right now and we are getting a lot of debris again. I guess I was pretty lucky that in three days of fishing all I did was wreck one prop!

At the head of the lake this weekend there were two cans submerged with only a small part of the lifting hooks showing and one can totally submerged with a good eddy wake showing. Really need to be careful in that area guys!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, we heard about this when we came in for the results of the tourney. Like others have said glad you and Dave were ok, hope your insurance will cover the damage for you.

Here are some pics. I think the undershot shows some green.

That’s just plain ugly. Is that a sound you will never forget Tweak?

That’s enough to make a guy sick. Glad no one got hurt.

Thanks for posting. Wow!! Glad to hear no one got hurt. Funny things can happen when you basically lose steering and any control. Good reminder this can happen to any one of us.

With as much crap coming down the river (logs, brush, garbage, etc), we all need to just slow down and wear life jackets. A lot of the stuff is riding just below the surface and you can’t always see it.

Gear and life is too expensive.

The coast guard rolled through P4 Sunday afternoon moving and switching out bouys, hopefully there aren’t any more submerged.
