well made it to everts at around 6:30. we headed in got the hot ringies and paddletails and some minnows.

we started the day vertical jigging on the lock side with only 1 hit to show for it.so we moved down river to to the spot by colville with nothing also.moved down to the clam bed right at the head of pepin but it was to windy to fish it so up the wisconsin channel we went.we pitched ringies and paddles up to spots that looked like they would hold fish but nothing again.we then moved to the mass of boats at hay creek and noone was catching any besides one boat and they werent catching eaters the were catching HAWGS!!!! only boat i seen catch a walleye there besides the 14 1/2 humpback eye i got and the ones they got were all huge. im talking like 5 or 6 over 8 lbs in the 2 hrs we were there. so we werent realy getting much so we ran back to the l&d and tried jigging again which resulted in nothing. then i have an idea. i had been looking at the graph all day noticing fish 1 to 2 feet off the bottom so i pulled out the 3 way rods and rigged one with a orange/chartruse floating jig and one with just a red hook. it was lights out for the next hour and a half pulling in over 20 myself and my dads 1. he was pulling raps though. the key i found was not to use a huge weight 1 oz.we were in 13 fow so you didnt need much weight to keep bottom contact. just put the rods in the holders and watch. you can tell when its the bottom or a fish most of the time because you will start to slowly see your rod tip move back not pounding on the bottom. overall was a fun first outing of the year with many more to come!!!!

it felt real good because i only had 2 bites all day up until then and one was a hook and split shot with a minnow in the rod holder that got the humpback… we were the guys launching the ranger as you were posting up the no parking sign on the hill.
