Well, another year’s spring trip to Red Wing has come and gone. Six days at Evert’s is always the perfect remedy for a long winter. We even coaxed a friend of mine to travel all the way from Portland Oregon to get a taste of what pool 4 has to offer. We had a great time, and as always, Dean was a great host.

We started slow, but figured things out as the days passed, and by Thursday, we were into some solid fish. Both Friday and Saturday were good days. We never figured out where the big girls were laying though, or at least where they were laying and willing to eat. Kevin Sime (Whiskerkev) took the big fish trophy for this year with a fish of 7.2 pounds. We had a good week, and as always, learned a lot of new things.

Here are some pictures from the week. Phil took a couple hundred pictures, but most of them don’t have any fish in them. Until next year, thanks pool 4, I miss you already.

    1. Kevin Clark (netman) with a 4 lb 12 oz sauger that was the early leader for big fish.
    2. Kevin Clark with a couple eaters for the camp fish fry.
    3. Kevin Sime (whiskerkev) with the eventual big fish winner at 7 lb 2 oz
    4. Kevin Sime sporting his best “explorer” pose
    5. Randy Smith and Mark Meinholz with their first Pool 4 fish ever
    6. Phil Mattson (the guy who came all the way from Portland OR) with an eater sauger
    7. Phil with a couple nice eaters
    8. Mark Meinholz with his bonus flathead that went somewhere around 50 pounds
    9. Phil and myself the morning we left camp after cleaning the cabin.

    Two more pictures.

    1. A nice P4 sunset.
    2. What seemed like a regular occurrence, ice flows.

Gas, oil, food, beer & maybe some cheap cigars = $180
Jigs, ringworms, paddletails, #9 rapala’s, new fishing line = $80
Extra blade baits donated to the fishing gods = $40
Home made cookies for Dean = $10

Spending time each spring on pool 4 with a bunch of happy-go-lucky screwballs from Wisconsin = Priceless!

    Yup, I miss that!

Nice job guys! I’m planning on being there next year though.

Life is too short to smoke cheap cigars.

Great time. I am still there mentally. We could probably work in Dave if he lets me drive his boat…

Can’t wait till next year! Here is our limit from saturday, the bite was on and we were in the right spot. It didn’t matter what we were pitching as long as is was plastic. The second photo is 4 of the better fish.

Hey d,great to have you as a neighbor. We should spend a day in a boat next year and you can teach me how to catch a sow like the one you got this year, she was pretty. Don’t be a stranger next year and stop on by.

Ice flows weren’t the only thing going downriver, what about the wood that was moving.

You should have stuck Kevin with the Flathead. Nice pictures, looks like a pretty good trip with some good fish to boot.
