Need to give a big thanks to Dean at Evert’s Resort for the tips and advice he shared with us on sunday. My friend and I had been out for a good part of the day with only limited success before we went into the shop to have a chat with Dean. Lets just say he shared more than enough info about how to and what to focus our efforts on. Needless to say we headed out for the afternoon and put his knowledge to work. had a blast landing over 25+ fish on the day with a few nice ones included. Can’t thank you enough for having such a great place you can pull into on a boat and get some honest advice. We will definitely be back soon!

    First off, Welcome to Ido!

    Secondly…HOLY SMOLY!

It’s amazing what focusing in the right area at the right time with the right bait will give a person the right picture to post!!

    Congrats!

Nice fish guys. What size boat are you fishing out of? It looks like a jon boat, I have a 14′ double wide/deep is that big/safe enough for that stretch of the river?

14′ shallow trihull. small boats are great on the river for boat control. plenty safe if ya keep your head on strait, you’ll see quite a few jon boats buzzing around. always fun when your boat is taken on water due to the wakes of the big boys who aren’t too considerate. good luck!

It looks look like you guys paid attention and listened to the details given. Not often do you see people pay attention to detail and actually put it together. Nice work boys and Dean, if I ever make it down, you deserve a fresh batch of COOKIES! Umm, BK, those would be for Dean.

That must have been after we talked to you on the river… You guys weren’t pulling fish in like that when we were fishing by you.

The advice wasn’t the problem, it was the dufuses behind the rods…

I was fishing with a buddy. We were in his boat which was 17′ bass tracker (Bass boat style). I usually fish out of an Alumacraft Magnum. We talked to you guys in the morning just above Red Wing.

Would you care to share what techniques/baits were successful for you?

nice, yeah the morning was slow until we moved on. it was nice chatting with ya out there, ya don’t often fish around anyone who wants to make small talk. nice to cut the silence of river fishing. seems like when everybody is fishing so close together in their boats, everyone is afraid to talk to each other or even the others in their own boat. makes it pretty awkward out there at times.

vertical jigging was working good during the day, green green hair was the trick. rainbow fire ball jigs also turned a few. the trick was holding your bait about 4-6″ off bottom, not jigging, just holding it there. later on the green green was still working but slinging blades yielded the most success with the big fish.

We managed a few fish but nothing big. Blades seem to be the ticket for the bigger fish. I have invested in several blades but I am still learning how to work them and I haven’t had any success with them yet. Also BK was working the baitshop when we were in there, not Dean. That could have been the problem.

That seems to ‘always’ be the problem around there.
