Been really quiet this week for reports. Planning to come up from central IA this weekend but as quiet as it is for reports wondering if it’s fishable. Debating whether to still come up or wait for another weekend, is the river totally shut down or are there still fish to be had?

Pool 8 is on the up and up, we should be into the flood action stage this weekend if not Friday.
I might just be taking this weekend off and getting loose ends tied up around the house.

I’ll be waiting for a few days of stable water before I head out again.

There might be some river pro’s out there that know how to catch walleyes in water that continues to rise 6-8″ a day, but definately not me….

Sorry guys, I wasn’t very clear but my question was directed to Pool 4. Thanks for the info still though.

Was on P4 yesterday tried handlining but couldn’t keep our baits clean! Water needs to settle down and warm up we read 39 deg to 39.7> Only managed one 16in sauger pitching! Did enjoy a wonderful day on the water introducing my 3yr old boy to his first Mississippi voyage with the oldman and he stuck it out for 6 HOURS Think hes hooked now, he asked mom this morning if i went fishing even though i told him i had to work! Thinking i have a fishing buddy all the time now Should have known since thats him fishing in a minnow bucket on my profile picture

P-4 is certainly fishable. I hope to have photos up tomorrow late day. Dean said the fishing has been slower for some, but as you can see in the photo posts below, there are some big girls coming to the nets.

Personally, (disclaimer at the end) many are trying to fish the same areas that they had good luck in 2 weeks ago. The fish are seeking shelter from the current that still has food. Now is the time of year to think shelter from currents and where are the bait fish. Generally speaking, these two places are the same.

I’ll let you know how my theory works on Sunday night.

    Disclaimer: I fish cats.
