Strange day on the river.

I spent a few hours on pool 14 today, with the bite not good. One 17 inch eye was all of the target species we could boat. Now to the strange, Dad landed a 10 lbs plus carp that had no tail. I don’t mean just missing the fin I mean a quarter of the fish was chopped off. Needless to say it didn’t fight much. We landed several more big bugle mouths after that one and yes they all had there tails. We were pitching blades into a current break that should of had eyes in it , but nothing but carp. The river is very high and muddy , with some debris starting to come down. The water temp is up 4 degrees since Wednesday, so I hope they will start biting better in a few days. So if you see the tail end of a carp drifting down the river I might know who it belongs to.

i went out there for an hour and packed it up. Tried a few spots that i thought might hold nothing. Water was dirty and high.

Heading out Wedensday for my first outing of the year. Sonds and looks like it will be tough fishing, but that’s part of the fun and great for the learning experience!

John, let me know what the river looks like. I’m thinking about going this week-end. The Rock River is up but the clarity is OK. Been getting some nice fish over here. Not alot of numbers because of the BIG KILL last year, but it didn’t get all of them.

Lets see Rick. Jigging, rigging, pitching, dragging jigs and casting. Plastic, meat, blades and dynamite. What more can I say. We worked very hard for the fish we boated. But fishing with John is always hard work All kidding’ aside, you couldn’t ask for a better guy to fish with. Thanks Trigger.

Nice fish guys. I fished for a few hours tonight with just a couple eyes coming to the boat. I went looking for awhile . I guess I should have just spent time where I knew they were. I did not get to the spot until right before dark and banged fish right away. The biggest was a 20.5 incher. The main channel is very dirty with lots of debris coming down . If you are out on the river this weekend pay attention there are some prop knockers floating around out there.

I thought John always brang along the dynamite just for me . It looks like you guys had some tough conditions but did manage a few nice fish, I was figuring that you were probably 3- waying with some big lead according to the flow but guess I was wrong. Yea Johns a stand up guy.

Thanks guys, I think. It was tough most of the day. We eventually succumbed and went with some meat on a jig to get most of our fish, although I think the key was just staying on a pod we marked and working until we found something they wanted. High pressure, high flow, high skies and low clarity, but it was a beautiful day on the water!
jigfan, we also got into some of those slobber knocker carp, what a blast. Ole’ rubber lips do know how to fight!
