We got out Sunday afternoon and it was slow for us until sunset when we got into some dandy eyes up to four lbs. pitching plastics and hair to shallow rock. The sauger bite has really tapered off for me the past month. Possibly the mid winter slowdown and the dying shad combo is making it tuffer??? Talked to some guys that were down river who didnt do well at all either for what its worth. Great day anyway.

On Sat. we started below the Y and caught 4 or 5 small sauger on ring worms. That lasted until the boats started to come up river. Then it really got slow until noon. I pitched a small jig away from the boat and just drug it. That worked for awhile, picked up one real nice 3 lb sauger that I threw back. All in all, it was a tough bite on Sat.

Hay Nate! My grandmother handed down this sucker menu to me.Take a good sized sucker and don,t gut it ,fillet it or scale it ,find a good hickory board and put the fish on the board rub the fish with imported virgin olive oil lift each thats EACH scale up gently and place a piece of garlic under every one.Now preheat a oven to 400 degrees cook the fish on the BOARD untill tender aprox 20min. now cut the board to bite sized pieces and throw away the fish. this goes good with a tossed salad and a fine white table wine wood is easier to swallow when washed down with a glass of wine. Aged Ripple will do or if you red wine maddog20/20 will do fine. They claim they served this dish to hitler (according to my german grandmother).

Hey Swany I said I caught a sucker not that I was a sucker it was a little to cold to jump in for a sucker, but a 8lb walleye I wouldn’t think twice about it. ok Stillakid lets here that recipe it has to taste better then that board old ranger was talking about I don’t care what you have to wash it down with. but then again I think I would rather eat the board!!!!!

Recipe? For a sucker? Gee, I thought all you had to do was uwrap it, stick it between your cheek and gum and slurp until you hit the tootsie roll!! LOL!

Comparing the two Nate, you can have the board! I’ll take the “sucker”! :O)

That is prob. the best recipe for sucker I’ve ever seen. lots of fiber in old ranger’s post…………to much sugar in stillakids……Sucker is really not a bad fish to eat guys but it must be SMOKED. ( No not like a cigar stillakid) the best come from the trout streams in the early spring. If you know of any trout streams that are mostly spring fed …they are good alll year round

Hey I,m sorry for that sucker post!!!!! that was for lutefisk better know as norwiegian and swedish soul food. That hickory board is exilent eating copaired to that jellied cod fish.I have to eat that stuff every year at christmass I think lutefisk is the minnisota state fish. I found a way to eat lutefisk but it takes 6hrs to go through the routine. First I get a pair of used sweat socks ,and they have to be in the damper for 2weeks at least.start drinking scotch whiskey, when you can put the sock near your nose and can,t smell it you are though stage one. stage 2 is easy get some jello. now start drinking scotch again and stae putting a litytle jello in your mouth keep drinking and when your mouth is so numb you can,t taste or feel the slimmy jello in the mouth you are ready for final and most dangerous step. Now put both socks and slimmy jello in front of you. Start drinking alternate putting sock and jello in mouth keep drinking untill you cannot taste or smell anything.you have completed the taste bud freezing program. now for final phase of you lutefisk eating procedure. Now hold the socks and slimmy jello at arms length and have someone start pouring the scotch down your throat. when you cannot tell the sock from the jello or you cannot see at all you are ready for LUTEFISH. If by chance you are one of the hard to nestisize persons you can repeat the sequense as often as needed.

Checked the lady of the house’s Betty Crocker receipe book. Didn’t find that one. Guess I’ll just have to settle for the Scotch. All the rest of that could be fattening anyway!
