Hay leo i,m a old timer to ! It,s great to be out on the water because you are still healhty enough to have a chance to get out there. If I catch fish thats good and if I do I put them back any way.,but as you get older fishing for me takes on a new meaning,I believe you sence a spirituality a peace. No running around like a fool and getting upset at not limiting out like I did when I was young. Sometimes I just drift looking at the trees and nature hoping I don,t get a bite because it,s so peacefull. You forget all problems of life and let worry leave your thoughts you think of the things that realy count in life and laugh at yourself for worrying about things that you realy have no control over. Going fishing is more to than catching fish, It,s a way to avoid paying a shrink $150 a hour, and to answer your question, that,s why they call it FISHING not CATCHING.

I agree 1000%. Just to be out on the water is enough reward. It’s always good to catch a few, but if not, the peace and quiet is reward enough for me.

I’d like to jump in and say that you don’t have to be old to feel this way. I think a person just needs to suffer a bit………….whether it be finance, living conditions, resident location, loss……………..these things cause reflection and reflection brings wisdom. I think fishing brings the opportunity to reflect and that grows near and dear to our hearts…………some sooner than others…………but none the less, I think eventually reaches all of us, and that sums up to appreciation. Appreciate life and God’s great creation. I’m still learning, but I believe this is the path that’ll get me to the same level of appreciation the older, AND wiser, generations possess. It’s great to have examples like you guys to look to as well! Have a great day! Got to go “appreciate” some time with Dinosaur!

I agree 1000% also. Just love being on the water admiring Gods creation. Oh I love fishing tournaments too but somedays I just want to be on the water to fish and relax and have fun and it will show on how I place in a tourney. Other days I’ll bust my butt out there and catch alot of fish and it shows up in how I did in a tourney too. The older I get the more I appreciate my time on the water whether the catching great or not. Everytime out I try to learn at least one new thing too. It keeps the thirst for more fishing knowledge going also. We will never know it all but we can always keep learning. Thats what makes the River so exciting.” The rich go to therapy, The rest of us go fishing”

I live in Chicago. I also build high rise condo buildings{design/build plumbing systems} When I get to the river It just unwinds me. I`m going to fish all the WAT tourneys plus the Cabalas on Mille Lacs , so its going to be a busy spring to sat the least. But what a relaxing time I have on that river. I just wish a major earthquake would move it closer LOL. During a tourney last year the bite was off and the fishing was tough, I dosed off jigging a wingdam and got up a 1/4 mile downstream when I bumped into the shore and knocked me off my seat and dam near in the water.Does it get anybetter than that. John
