Just wondering if there was any open water in the quad cities area with an open ramp. My boat is crying that it needs to hit the water! I’ve heard the Hampton dam (L&D 14)is giving up some nice eyes from shore, but I’ve never tried it.
    Anyone been out?

Thanks Current Break! I would guess everything is probably iced up now, but maybe in a couple weeks I’ll give it a try.

It’s been along time John. Hope things are well with you and the family. As far as I can tell, both pools are frozen over. There was some open water on 16 last week, but none now. I’m working right along the river now and it’s hard for me to get anything done. Good thing it is frozen now. I hope to talk to you later. Take care.

I stopped by the ramp at the locks in LaClaier to day. The ramp is still in open water, but has not been plowed. AWD or 4WD would get you in and out. The gravel ramp at the slough. The mid am power plant side is rolling and open but the arsenal side is frozen up, and the slough down river is
frozen up. as River rat said the ramp in DAV. is frozen. If we get the snow thats been in the forcast. who knows when we will get out in the boat. I did see a guy fishing the wall buy the dam on the IL side at 14

Thanks Tony, Garth! I am guessing I will have to hold on for a warm spell before it is worth towing the boat down. Thanks for checking things out! I’m not much of an ice fisherman, but my brother in law has been doing great during this cold spell in the Cordova area. I may have to go sit on the ice, just to wet a line. Crappies and bluegills are both doing well.

Tony, I saw your report about fishing Sunfish slough by Fulton. I live at the river end of that slough! You are a brave soul. There is some very thin ice in there on the coldest of winters due to the warm springs in there. That is one of my “secret” spring walleye spots as well. There are some real sows in there before spawn, and right after spawn as well. Bass guys catch them in there all summer long, but not much for numbers. Don’t tell anyone about my secret spot, ok?

All’s well here Tony! Working hard on winter projects and honey-dos, tying spinner rigs for spring, and reorganizing my tackle so I can concentrate on some real serious fishin’ come ice out!

    Thanks again,

Don’t worry John, your secrets safe with me.
I also love fishing there after ice out. I was hoping to nail an eye or two, but no luck that day. I know a bunch of bass fisherman that pull some nice fish from there while fishing tourneys. When the river opens back up, we will have to get together and fish your secret spot I’ll talk to you later.

Hey Tony, and John I stopped by the ramp at LeClaire yesterday. The comercial fisherman had plowed one of the ramps open. Their was one boat out fishing, and three comercial guys out. The river is wide open. So john if it stays warm has they say it is, you will have that open water that you were looking for .

Thanks Garth, I think if it stays warm enough, I’ll give it a go next week. Got a full schedule this week. Those fish gotta be hungry, don’t they?
