3-ways & ringworms

After fighting the wind at Red Wing on Saturday, but did manage to throw back a 2 and 3 pound sauger, how does a ring worm work on a 3-way? Is it better to fish it on a light jig head or use a long shanked bait keeper hook? I just thought in the wind that might have been a good option if I would of had by 3-way rod along.

Turk showed me the Dubuque rig. We used a 3/8 oz jig as a dropper, tipped with a ringworm on about 10 inches of mono. Then we tied a plain hook on about 4 ft. of mono. The jig acted as the weight. That day we caught most on the ring worm with some grabbing the whole minnow free floating/swimming up above. Not sure if this helps or is what you are looking for?

We use a rig like that on the Illinois River. we use a jig heavy enough to get down 1/2 or 3/8 and above that about 3ft we put amono leader about a foot and 1/2 with a floating jig. put a ring worm on both. When the fish hits the3 top bait the 1/2 inch lead jig swings around and knocks the fish out and it floats to surface.

Dubuque Rigs are a great way to go, it is also awesome to catch two fish at the same time, check out my double on the picture pages, 5 lb walleye, and a 16 ” sauger. that was sure fun, thought I had a monster on. Jack.
