Anybody got a mississippi walleye report anywhere within 100 miles of pool 15? I’m off this week, have it bad for walleye and frankly, I’m getting my butt kicked! I’ve been pitching current seams, trolling shallow, trolling leadcore, jigging the wing dams and bridge pilings. Two days hard fishing have yielded me three dinks. I feel like I forgot how to fish!
Any help out there…looking for a bite.
Thanks in advance–and thanks again for keeping IDO up and running! Great site!

Don’t beat yourself up too bad it has been a bit slow up on pool 3 as well. I think a few of us are hoping fall begins, waters cool, and the feeding begins.

a dark 1/4 oz jig and a leach produced a half doz. nice eaters on a back water wing damn on lower pool 4 sat, all around 15 1/2″ depth was shallow about 6-8 ft. but very near a 18 ft hole after about 10 am all i caught were sheeps. maybe a start. i tried alot of different things on this wing damn and diferent color jigs only the black with a little red caught fish.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one suffering–I’m itchy for fall feeding frenzys too, but I figure the best time to fish is whenever you can.
    Thanks for the tip!
Hey, you can still get leeches up there? Bait shops down here have been saying “unavailable” for three weeks, I’m down to my last dozen.
    Thanks again!

Fished pool 14 last Sunday. Had 5 walleyes. One short, 2 at 24″ and two 17-18″ keepers. All came off wingdams. Also had the usual mixed bag of sheephead, stipers, flatheads and bass. They seem to be out farther on the wingdam closer to the current. Caught all the walleyes on shad baits.

It’s been way way slow for the eyes on the Miss. Now the smaller rivers are starting to give up some real nice ones.

I’ve been doing really well early in the morning and late at night on the dams of the mississippi on pool 13 look for deep dams and fish the channel side of the dam. 12 fish last weekend the biggest was 25.5 but I had 11 from 15-22″.
I also have a friend doing really good on the wapsi and maq.

I will second the deep dams and rocks. Find some current. I am up on P2 so a long ways from 15 but been seeing good size but #’s have been slow some days (3-8 eyes per trip)Live bait on 3/16th or 1/8th if you can get away with it. Cranks have put fish in the boat but not much size. Rock/main channel transistions areas 9-12 fow has been good for trolling. Low light has been better but still seeing some fish thru the middle of the day deep(12-16fow)!

Pool 14 has been producing some real quality fish but just not the numbers were use to. I fished for a few hours tonight and put 4 in the boat. The largest was a 26 incher . They are coming on many different baits , all artifical . Anything that looks like a fleeing shad they will hit . When you do get one to go they are crushing it. If you are looking for eater size fish you might be out of luck everything I’m catching is in the slot. Good Luck!

Yep, nothing but slot fish last weekend, but its hard to complain about catching 24-25″ walleye.

Gonna hit pool 12 again this weekend. Crawlers and cranks on the face of the wingys. Find the deep ones with water flow. I have been getting most hits on the closest 1/3 to the channel and off of the ends of the wingys.

Well, at least I woke a few people up! Was starting to wonder by the posts if anybody was even fishing!
Thanks for the info–I’m hearing “shad” a lot. Was out thursday and really toying with the idea of pitching shad bodies jigs(big ones) to the wings–didn’t ever get around to it, now I’m wondering some more…
Might have to put off that honeydew list a couple more days…
Thanks all–I needed the encouragement! Some great people on this site.

The bite was a little better today . We fish four hours this afternoon with 12 fish coming to the boat. The two biggest were 26 and 25.5 inchers. Shad style baits are the ticket right now. I will be back out in the morning I hope there still on the chew.

The bite Sunday morning on Pool 14 was a little tougher than Saturday. We ended up with 6 fish 3 were in the slot. The big fish of the day was a 26.25 incher . It will only be getting better the later in to Fall we get. Bring on the cooler weather!

I’ve been on 14 a few times in the last couple weeks. Two short trips with a friends who are new to walleye fishing warm water. Spent quite a bit of time on wings with 3 ways, pitching jigs/plastics and jig/crawlers. Did not find a lot of fish on any given location, but with some persistence we caught some fish each day. I think I have made a couple more converts, one a bass guy and the other likes those whiskered fish. I think they have the walleye bug now though.
Also did some trolling a week ago on a couple flats. Caught fish long lining and pulling leadcore. Pushing the speed up to 2.5 to 3.5 mph pulling shad raps and 2.2-2.5 with wally divers put fish in the boat. Changing speed and direction frequently seemed to trigger most of our fish. Not a hot and heavy bite, but for this time of year, with all the food available in the river right now, I will sure take it! I remember many years during late summer to early fall where the fish where much more difficult to come by.

Anyone been up on pool 9? Called up there last week and it didn’t sound too good.
