Have any of you guys tried this before? If so can you provide some help as to how? I typically use a 3/4 – 1 oz. jig as my weight on about an 18″ leader and then out the back will run about 4-5′ leader with a crank attached. This really hasn’t produced for me this year and am considering using some type of spinner rig instead of a crank but have no idea what I am doing there. Would this system be effective while trolling, under what cirmcumstances would it work best? We would be trolling the mississippi. Any and all help is appreciated! I am fishing pool 10 south of Harpers Ferry.

Spinners work ok,if your in enough current to spin it or going fast, but that takes away from the jigs effectifness(sp). What I like is too use a streamer fly on about a 2ft lead and work them slowly up stream. Most of the time a put a fathead or a leach on both.

The flathead jig in 3/4 ounce is great as an anchor lure. You can dress one up with hair or plastic and they’ll support a fair sized bait behind/above it. The walleye flies, floating heads, or if you are working this under power, as smaller spinner rig, can all be fished with a leech or part of a crawler.

I like this rigging if I am fishing a dam-face or am in center channel situations where there is good current.

I have been pulling dubuque rigs with about a 4 foot flouro leader with northland mimic minnow colorado blades in gold or silver shiner with a few red beads and a mustad slow death hook in size 1 or 2. Seems to have been working pretty good this year. Don’t always catch lots of fish, but haven’t been skunked on it yet this year. Usually run this as a dubuque rig, or with just a swivel and bullet sinker above the leader.
