Spent Saturday morning fishing my favorite way trolling broads on flat areas of upper Lake Pepin. The area fished was from the Rush river up and beyond an area called warrentown. The results were as follows 2 17 inch sauger one on a #7 jointed shad rap the other on a #5 spinner blade. After about 9 am I abandoned this stratagey due to the very high winds and trolled lead core on a couple of spots on the main channel with no fish on the core.

Are you sure you weren’t “trolling for broads” and that is maybe why the fish catching was limited.

I too fished Lake Pepin Sat. morning. We fished south of you on Minnesota side. We long lined it #7 shad raps in bleeding pearl and hot steel. Started at 7 and by shorty after 10 had 3 eyes and 9 sauger in the 2 wells. 2 biggest eyes were 2-2.5 lbs. Sauger were smaller but good eaters. After 8:30 when the wind picked up it was tough but hung in there and had a good morning.

Between friday and saturday we had 12+ walleye and sauger over 18 inches largest hitting the tapes just over 25 inches and 35 or more walleye 18 inches and under. We also had 4 SLAB crappies, smallmouths, flatheads, tons of white bass and the ever famous sheepies but they dont count.

i was out sat from 8 to 1 trolling #5 shad, firetiger, and perch color and we caught 20 walleye-sauger and about 10 white bass. but only couple of the saugers were keepers. that wind was fun in the little 14footer. we also seen a guy fall off the boat landing triing to catch his floating boat.

With some tournies still around for another week or 2 you probably wont get too much info like this.

As I said I was from the Rush river which is up from Maiden Rock to an area beyond Warrentown which is a couple of miles above Maiden Rock if it wasnt for the wind I believe the bite would have been better but when you have your bites 1.6-2.3mph when the wind was lower and then you have togo 3.0-4.0 just to possibly stay on track the fish wouldnt bite at the higher speeds.

I would not exactly be to worried about 3 MPH hour at the moment.
