Hello everyone!! I was wondering what kind of rod to purchase? I read a post a while back about the st. croix extreme being the ticket?? With that being said, I see theres alot of differant sizes and I have no clue where to start! I’m gonna finally get a boat, and really wanted to try out blades, ringies, and 3 way fishing so with that said, which size makes the most sense? I already have a G loomis 6′ mfa if that helps at all! Also just wanted to THANK you all for the great info, I finally posted after a year of reading lol!

Welcome to the site !!! I wish you good luck with the boat purchase also. If your budget allows you a st. croix extreme then its probally going to be a very good purchase. I have the legend tourney river jig 6’8″ mxf and love it. I have avids also and the new mojo. They are great rods and i dont think you can go wrong with any st. croix. Dan

They are good poles but also take a look at the Fenwicks. They are also a very good pole. I have Fenwick HMX, HMG, and HMG AV’s and i love them. They would work good for ringworms and blades. You can get a HMX for under $100 and the AV’s are just under $200. To tell you the truth the HMX and AV are very similar. If you dont want to spend more then $100 the HMX would be a good pole. But you cant go wrong with a st. croix but they will be more expensive.

First off, welcome to the site PrimeTime82. If you can afford the Extremes you will definitely be more than happy with the purchase. If you can afford two and want to give me one of them that would be even better Just go hold one of the Extremes and it will sell itself. I still can’t believe how light they are and match it with the right reel and the balance is out of this world. I use the Tournement Legends and am very happy with them but the Extreme is on my list of upgrades. I know there a a lot of good rods on the market today but I have yet to find one that I think would do a better job than my St. Croixs and that’s why I fish them! Let us know what you decide and feel free to post any questions you might have.

I’ve been fishing with the legend tournament series for the past 3 years. Solid rods that come in a variety of lengths and actions to suit whatever technique you’re going to use. The rods that see the most time in my boat are the 68MXF (general pitching), 76MLF (pitching and dragging light jigs) and the “heavy bouncer” casting rod, TWC70MHM, which works great for bottom bouncing and 3-ways.

I just started adding the legend extremes to my collection after test driving them over the winter. I have the 69MLF rod that I have been using exclusively for blades, but I suspect that I will do a fair amount of pitching and dragging with that rod as well.

I’ll be purchasing a few new rods from Deano in a couple weeks, and would highly suggest giving him a ring. He ships mine directly to my front door here on the border. He has a great selection of St.Croix rods. I will likely be getting my hands on Tournament series rods and possibly the new “Extreme”. I prefer the 6’9 Medium Light rod as I like to work jigs. I will caution from experience if you go too heavy even a medium in many jigging applications these rods are a bit too stiff to detect subtle bites. I’ve made the mistake before watching the Fishing Queen give me a beat down!! LOL!! St. Croix all the way!! Dean will set you up with what you need and take great care of you!!

I agree with Chris. Go see Dean at Evert’s. He will fix you up and stay within your budget

Thanks for the help! Everts is only a 15-20 minute drive so I will get down there ASAP! I’m sure he’s pretty busy this time of year but I’ll call to make sure he’s around before I head down! Also just wanted to say Rainy Lake ROCKS and was up there this winter a few times ice fishing, I absolutly love that lake and will be going up there every year for the rest of my life! Next year I will make a better effort to say hello as I seen you the 1st time up but didn’t get out of the portable, it was COLD out lol!
