Quick question on casting blade baits.
Where do you hook your snap to when casting,
the middle hole, the one towards the head, or the back?
    Thanks for the help

I was told by a “CATFISHING GUIDE” to use the middle hole but that comes from a guy that beleives stink bait is the only bait thanks for the info BK

Does everyone prefer to use snaps to the blade baits? Can you tie directly to the blade bait?

I think tying directly would cause the line to fray and break where it attaches to the blade. All the good sticks I have talked to all use snaps and thats good enough for me!

You want the snap. If you tied direct you would not have to action like a snap where it has room to play. Also like Rich said you will have issues with the metal cutting the braid.

    IMHO,
Most of the time, the middle hole. But, with that being said, don’t be afraid to try the back hole as well, it will change up the vibration of the blade, and some just fish better out of the back hole. Keep that in mind when you think one is not running right.

Use a #2 snap, you’ll foul up the lure less when pitching it out. Also I good rod makes all the difference in the world when working a blade. This has been discussed many times, with a good rod you can feel the vibration of the bait, you can feel the bait settle into the rocks/wood/bottom contact and get the blade working again, or out of trouble before $3 is snagged into something.

I highly recommend the new Croix exteme or a higher end croix rod.

Do yourself a favor and use Everts Resort try before you buy program.

    ****WARNING*****

If you try a new extreme rod, one will more than likely be coming home with you!!

One of those St Croix Legend Extremes is on my “someday list,” but for now I’m going to try out my Chronarch 50MG with a 6′ 8″ Shimano Cumara. Rod and reel weigh 9 oz together and it’s the rig I use for weightless plastics for bass. If I can’t feel what’s going on with that rig, then something’s wrong.

What’s the percentage of fish hooked inside the mouth vs outside the mouth using blades this time of year?

yup same here….95% of my fish come as the blade is on the fall/flutter rather than the pull….
