Lots of calls as of late asking how the bite is and what the river is doing. The bite is definitely on a up swing as water levels have stabilized and even lowered and the water temps have steadily been on the rise.Temp in my opinion has been the most limiting factor for the bite or lack there of.The temps are slowly but surely honing in on the 40 degree mark in the afternoons. The past two days has shown marked improvement of the overall bite.A good bunch of saugers have moved in and the male eyes are making themselves catch able.
Overall, and especially during the windy days, dragging bright colored,ie: orange/chart, pink/chart,or plain orange jigs with shortened ringworms have been the go to presentation. A handful of colors like Firecracker/chart, goldcracker chart, fire pepper, and blue oyster cult have been consistant producers. Jig weight is crucial to getting bit and depending on the areas,1/8,3/16,& 1/4 oz weights have been the jig sizes to start with.
This nice fish was caught dragging jigs by the infamous IDO celebrity Wade Kuehl from Jollyann Marine on his recent trip.Nice fish Wade, but I dont think our IDO folks are going to buy that it went 12.8#….
