just got 1 quick question.i left my lisence at 1 of my buddies house and he is in mexico for spring break. i was wondering if i can still fish without having it on me or do i need to be in possesion of it or can they look me up in the system? thanks for the responses.i have 2 of them i missplaced 1 earlier in the year and went to go get a duplicate and it said i didnt get 1 to start the year off in the system so im wondering if my second 1 is in the system either.

Following MN law. Legally you have to have it on you while fishing. With that being said I’ve been simply shocked and amazed at the lack of law enforcement in the pool 4 area. I figured with that many boats out there, there would be at least 1 CO or Sheriff checking people. However I didn’t see any.

So I’d say take the chance and gamble. You can prove that you have a license, just not that day. You could probably talk your way out of it.

was it an 08 or 09 licence ?
if it was an 08, I would just get a new one for 09 and have the person printing it do a reprint as soon as it prints out,
the system will let them print it free if done rite away
and that way you will have one that you can keep in your boat or tackle box

It’s up to the CO on if he/she gives you a warning and makes you prove later that you have a licence, or gives you a ticket , if it was me I would just spend the $20 and get a new one that way you know your OK

The sheriff is always out there, even on the week days. I have yet to see a DNR officer from either state on the very busy pool 4 though.

I’ve seen his truck at the landing once. I’ve yet to see his boat. Of course I suppose he can hide pretty well in the middle of 500 boats.

I’ve seen the MN DNR on each of my last two trips, got checked on my most recent one. They’re out and about.

Jesse, look for a green lund angler, I think with a yammaha 150 on the back, no trolling motor, always two in the boat with bumpers hanging out both sides.

I have seen these two guys. They are Wisconsin CO’s if I remember right. Last year me and my uncle were fishing by the dam and they were fishing right next to us. Later in the day they boated up next to us at the Y in full uniform. We asked if they were out fishing before work, and their reply was, NO, we have been working all day.

So just because you do not see a uniformed CO does not mean they are not out there.

I think it depends on what mood the officer that checks you is in that day but should have it on you, I think a replacement is only a couple bucks I’d get one. Also commenting on law enforcement on pool 4 I have been fishing there for almost 15 years and this year is the first time I’ve ever seen any down there and that day they were both patrolling DNR and Sheriff I have to believe that they’re thoughts about all the boats is most of us out there are careful and are out fishing not out partying or just out cruisin, don’t get me wrong I like seeing them out doing they’re job but when necessary… ok thats all good day all!! Oh one more thing you spell license with a c not a s

The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t check fishing licenses. Only boat registrations, life jackets, etc.

I buy my licenses online, then print out multiple copies on my home printer.
I put one in my wallet, one in the boat, one in the fly vest, one with the ice tackle and one in the file cabinet at home.

As far as Game Wardens on Pool 4, I see them all the time. Between MN DNR,WS DNR, Pierce County Deputies and Goodhue county Deputies it is almost a daily occurance to see them. They don’t always check you but that doesn’t mean they are not off in the distance with binoculars watching. This time of year they are really checking out boat registration. I get checked for fishing license on a regular basis on Pool 4 but haven’t been check this year yet. Maybe I spend a little more time on the water than most but I sure would never think of going out without a valid license in my pocket—it’s just not worth the hassle!

I just figure I will be checked, so have the boat ready for a check and license. If your boat is in order, the checks go very quickly and back to fishing in no time.

Thanks Jami, I’m sure they have seen me but I guess when I’m on the water I am in fishing mode and not busy looking for the DNR so I must have over looked them …no biggie I’m legal
