Ya never say never on any of the pools, but nothing special from the handful of folks I have visited with.It sure isn’t far away though.
March 31, 2009 at 6:41 pm #764303Was there on Saturday looking/fishing. Lots of debris in the water from logs to weeds/leaves. Didn’t catch much, water temp was 37-38. Should get going pretty soon, once the temps start climbing.

I assume you’re asking about Dam #2 (Hastings Dam) which is the start of Pool 3.
1.) The water below the Hasting dam is often iced-up during the winter, especially this winter. The water below the Red Wing dam (Dam #3) stays open because of the warm water discharge from the nuke plant just upstream from the dam.
2.) The Hasting ramps and the Prescott ramp are often iced-up. The ramps at Everts stay open because of Dean.
3.) About the time the ice melts on the upper end of Pool 3, the game fish season closes. From the Hastings dam to the confluence with the St. Croix at Prescott is inland waters, not border waters like it is below Prescott.

Hastings Dam to Prescott is closed to fishing this time of year.
Well it’s inland water, so walleye, bass, pike and such follow normal minnesota seasons, you could fish for species in season like carp, catfish and panfish. Once you hit Prescott it becomes border water and follows border water rules, can’t tell you exactly where that point starts, I’ve just assumed it was the start of the no wake zone on the mn side, don’t know for sure, normally I haven’t seen boats fishing up river from the confluence, st.croix wise I believe you need to be below the RR tracks to be legal.
Always best to contact the DNR or local enforcement to be sure.
