First off, congrats go out to Captain Marty Hahn shown here with his recent PB walleye.Measuring out at just over 30 inches and weighing in at 13.8#! Congrats Marty.
Marty caught this fish on a recent guide trip, and was willing to share the fish was caught pitching a bright orange jig and a firecracker chart tail ringworm casting shallow.Although this bite hasn’t been a number bite by any means,it is hard to question the quality of fish that it commonly produces.Marty also shared that his boat has been having some reasonable success pulling dubuque rigs with a jig dropper and plastic and the top line using everything from another plastic, small floating Rapala, and or just a plain hook & minnow.
Assuming that there is no major weather influences, the river stage is predicted to crest this week. But mother nature could change that with a blink of an eye.As of now,the seams and eddies are making them selves very identifiable and much easier to target the big fish locations.River color looks excellent, and temps crawling upward back to the 40 mark slowly.Overall,I would estimate the typical patterns to be behind 10 -14 days from the norm ,with cold water temps seemingly being the limiting factor. The bite overall,a slower year than what we are used to here, but I am seeing some slight signs of improvement everyday. There was actually a pretty decent numbers bite yesterday for a couple of local anglers, reporting nearly 30 legals to the boat. That certainly isn’t across the board for everyone, but a good sign none the less! The bite is improving here on Pool #4.
Finally, safety, floating debris have been very good as compared to previous years, but remember it only takes one to do some damage or worse yet,get someone hurt.Proceed with caution on all of the pools this time of year.PS,dont forget to have fun fishing!
