    Hit Pool 4 today,
Snowing on the way down, raining on the way home.
    That’s MN weather for you…..

Started off the morning pitching into the shallows,
after no biters, made the move out to deeper water.
But still nothing. Didn’t see many fish caught today.
Between the front moving in and that nasty South wind,
it made for a tuff day on the water.
But a bad of day of fishing, is still better than a good day at work

We ended the day with 3 small walleyes,
but I caught a bonus 1st ever sturgeon.
Guessing she taped out at 36+inches,
she sure was fun on 8lb test.

Nice sturg! I agree, it was a tough day on p4. First time out, no walleys or sauger.

Don’t feel bad I was down there too and we only caught 1 18 incher, and I usually hold my own down there. We did catch a 17 inch brown trout, yes I said brown trout! Wouldn’t believe it myself if I hadn’t seen it myself.

Browns are uncommon but certainly not unheard-of at this time of year.

Those bigger browns filter down into the river when water temps are cold to take advantage of all the shad going belly up. Remember that trout are a cold water fish that thrive in lower water temps. Once the water warms up later in the spring, they boogie back into their tributary streams to spend the summer.

Here’s a pic of James Holst with a comparable size brownie caught in Feb, dragging a goldcracker ringie from B-Fish-N tackle.

Maybe Rich, but I’ve had a ball with them in front of the resort this time of year………. Had a five and a six pounder the last time the tour was on P4.
