Pool 4 on Sunday 12/16

I fished for several hours today on Pool 4 but all I could catch were small saugers and walleyes. Most of these were caught drifting from the point of the Y down past the Vermillon. There were also several other boats fishing this area and I mostly just saw small fish being caught. This was the same area that I fished two Sundays ago and caught 4 saugers in the 18-20″ range in one short drift.

I also tried a few other techniques at several locations well downstream of the dam but came up empty. I tried pitching ringworms on some sand flats and rip rap and also tried some vertical jigging down past Coville.

I did talk to a guy at the ramp that said they caught some 15-17″ saugers up close to the dam this morning.

How did anyone else do? I’m sure the nice sized fish were active today but I couldn’t find them. Anything happening on Pool 2 or Pool 3? I might try to fish Pool 3 midweek.

On a side note…. why do people use a landing net for 13″ saugers? I use to think that when people got the net ready that it must be a nice fish but not anymore. I saw a lot of 13 14″ fished being netted today.

I wonder the same thing…..I only use my net for fish that are 20 + otherwise I just kinda sling em in the boat.. usually if they are really small you can get them to the top and then kinda flick your line like you are on a snag and they never have to leave the water…….. on a side note…. my buddy Dirk was using a pole (st criox) we had won in the ftr catfish tourney last year…. and he tried to sling a walleye in the boat that was about 2pds and broke the pole….

    waterfowler,

Thanks for a day on the water Saturday! We got into some nice saugers for sure. Looks like I need to switch up on hook set eh? Move towards the “MArk Mcquire” swing you were demonstrating!!lol

I had a great day on Saturday fishing with you Jim. It’s always fun to hear someone elses perspective on a sport that I like so much.

Gotta drive the point home, if you know what I mean.

I broke 2 avids this summer. My 5 yr. old closed one in the rod locker, and I muscled one on a snag. Sent them to Croix, got the new ones back within 10 days. Great service.Keep it vertical.

I just got a note from Fed Ex saying they tried to deliver the new rod today, 4 days after they received the broken one. Thats pretty good service. Great Plains, you, me and Mazner should hook up sometime for some fish’n. I’ve got my summers off also if you need a extra when your not PWT’n.

Does St. Croix have any warranty replacement cost to the purchaser?

Just a $10.00 shipping fee. I was amazed at how easy it was! St. Croix rods only from now on. Let me know when you can get out Dirk. I’m going to fish Pool 3 and the Croix tomorrow. Probably launch about 10:00 and stay out until dark. I’m not real familiar with Pool 3 north of Prescott. I figured its about time to get that way. Mavz said you work in Hastings. Let me know if we can hook up after you get off work. Keep it vertical

I found good numbers of 16 to 18 inch saugers south of the Y Sunday. Hair jigs did the trik for me. Got only dinks on plain jig & minnow. Best fish on outer edge of 30′ + water 26′ to 29′.
