What a day! 40 degrees never felt so good. Fish were not fast and furious, but did manage to boat about 25 fish between my unkle and I with lots of short bites too. We ended up with 8 for the box ranging in size between 14″ and 20″ with 16″ being the average size kept. Plain jig and minnow verticle worked best for us and color didn’t seem to matter. Nice to meet you cedarcreek and I hope you enjoyed the girl scout cookies Dean.

What a day is right! That thaw got me in the happy place…to Evert’s. I was a tad late, but the last half hour before I left at 6:15 was great. Pitching up to the shore with dark ringworms or Kings Ale was the ticket for me. I boated 10–mostly small, but just fun. I was nervous about the eagle hanging by me–he was eyeballing my sandwich. I did learn that I should have the marker buoys marked on my GPS when I travel at dark. No contact made, but they are hard to see.

Great day yesterday weather and fishing. Two of us caught 40+ fish with alot in the 18-20inch saugers mostly. the ladies are on the chew. some were bursting with roe. they were hiting the baits so hard it would rip the rod right out of your hand. Not much luck pitching a few smallish saugers on blades. vertical bite best for us pretty consistant throughout the day. wish I could be there today just to many things to do.

Go slow at night and use your spotlight. Cans move up and down stream and the GPS isn’t accurate enough to rely on for navigation. There is no prize for getting home quickly with a smashed up rig. Trust me, Catfisherman own the night.

Yep you wont see those can until the last minute. Then its to late. There are a few on this site that have smacked them. I took one head on a few years back with my jon boat. Lucky it didnt flip the boat.

Had an awesome pitching bite at dusk. Not much for size but a fish on just about every cast. I committed to stay shallow but it was tough watching the guys outside of me wacking those big sauger. All part of building confidance in the blades.

If you need an inexpensive spotlight, I can point you to either a corded or a rechargable cordless. They are a must-have safety item if you are fishing after dark on the river.

    Spot Lights

I use the $3.99 corded model (40809). It’s been in my boat since I bought it (over 3 years) and works great.

Get two of them…redundancy is essential at night.

you can get a 3 million CP corded spot at gander for 30 bucks.

and i also keep a 12v clamp-to-12v plug receptacle with, so if my 12v plug dies, i can just hook it up directly to a battery.

I think you can get a millon candle powered one for $10 or so, I have amillon and a 7 million, the 1 million is more than enough for most circumstances, and if it’s not, you;re probably going too fast, personally the 7 mil one is a little obsecene on a lake with homes. Both of mine will run off my 12v plugs in the boat.

Do becareful with the lights too, they can burn your carpet wicked fast

I do have spotlights on board…I was just saying they are tough to see. Dang…I’m not as dumb or as tough as I used to be.
