I finally had the chance to get back on the river after a 12 day lay off with other projects getting in my way of making it on to the river .I was suppose to spend the day with a few buddies that never showed, their loss I guess. I had 40 something legal fish all by my lonesome with 27 of those fish being walleye caught in 12′ of water or less. My best bait was an oyster shell ringworm and pro-blue was a close second.
In the early am I found fish right up on the river bank before the sun got high in the sky. Casting was pretty easy in the am with little to no wind but in the afternoon the winds were howling to beat he##. I stuck it out almost until sundown. With the high winds we had on this afternoon anchoring close to my target area making really short casts to shore with jigs in the 1/4oz and 5/16oz size did the trick.
The size of the eyes were in the 18″ to 22″ range, no big fish on this day . The sauger bite was good in 18′ to 25′ during mid day with steady action. Ringies did the trick for me on the sauger as well, biggest sauger for the day went just short of 20″
Sorry, no pictures since I spent the day alone.
It felt good to get back on the river.
