I’ve been going out after dark and throwing countdowns on shallow flats. All I can say is what a blast. Thursday night was a little cool, but the walleye gods threw a switch about 9:30 pm, and I had 40 minutes of absolute heaven. 20 walleyes between 16-22 inches. Last night I stuck it out in the wind until 10:30 and the switch was not thrown, 4 good walleyes in 5 hours, a few sauger thrown in to keep it interesting. You get some strange looks putting your boat in when everyone else is leaving, but the rewards have been great. I’m starting to wonder why I ever fished walleyes in the daylight.

How big of countdowns have you been throwing and how fast have you been retrieving them? Also, have the fish been in 1-2 ft real close to shore or out a bit?

    Thanks for the help.

#5 #7 countdowns 3-6 feet of water. Retrieve very slowly, sometimes stop and go. Thursday night best tecnique was to deadstick in the flow. Last night (a little windy) you had to stop and go. Me and Fishpig got several nice fish between 16-18″ The good bite started about 7:00 and lasted till 8:30 when the wind got serious. Stayed out till 9:30 then had to go home and thaw.

Matt did you forget the color already? I think it was junebug (bass fisherman code word for Red shad). I caught fish on just about every color except blue this year…Funny that was the hot color a couple of years ago.
