does anyone know where a person can get set up for handlining? reels, wire, weights, etc. have been searching on the internet and there doesn’t seem to be any real good sources out there. all the articles talk about A&S reels, goldcap and redcap reels, and trollamatics, but i can’t seem to find any suppliers on the net. checked cabelas and basspro with no luck either. any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

I bought all of my gear from Dean at Everts: 715-792-2333. Dean carries two different types of handline reels, weights, shanks….the whole shootin’ match. He’ll have exactly what you need, box it up and ship it down to you.

riverking – save yourself a LOT of frustration and buy A&S reels. if you’d like the details on why my experience makes me post this send me a PM and I’ll fill you in….

Kurt is right, those reels are the best and I’ve used a variety before I bought those. Good luck

I think I have seen people handlining on TV but don’t know much about it. What is the advantage of using this technique, and Where can I get more info about it?

Your ability to contour troll a breakline is almost spot on the spot. The main advantage is with the high flow you are often using a weight of a pound or more and are capable of fishing deep holes where fish might be down in letting the current sweep over them and trying to troll a 3 way in the would be next to impossible without a large amount of weight. That being said i am NO expert only have done it once but seen it done plenty of times. Your baits are almost below the boat and allows you work a small area very easily as well.
