Today (Friday) may be my only day to fish this weekend (at least I get one day). Has anyone checked the 494 ramp for ice conditions? I am assuming it is open.

It is going to be cold (high 20s) and blustery today but I may give it a try or wait until Sunday.

    Hi Gopher,

I’m sure you found the ramp open and in good condition on Friday. Dinosaur and I made it out yesterday (Saturday). Even with the morning temps hovering in the upper teens, we had no problem. Both sides of the ramp are clean and free of ice and the dock is still in.

We did not see another boat out all day! Had it all to ourselves!! Wish I could report a good bite, but it was tuff. Dino managed a few nice fish. Just did not get them dialed in. Plan to get out today for a few hours this afternoon and into the evening. Hope this wind we have right now dies down a bit.

    Good Luck,
    Jon J.

Thanks for the timely info. I passed on Friday due to the wind and cold, but I’ll be out there this PM (Sunday).

Sunday was not much better for catching either. The morning started out beautiful with calm winds at sunrise……till 9 am. Then the wind decided to make boat control a bit tough. I did manage to take this nice 21″ sauger just downstream from the Red Rock daymark. A green/pepper Superdoo did the trick.
This week is looking good for temps. Maybe the catching will pick up a bit?

I was out in the wind last night…..Yikes was she blowing hard. There was no where to escape that kind of wind. Anyhow, I fish for about 2 hours and boated 9 fish after dark. The evening bite overall has been very good. 20-30 fish nights have been real common this past week. We caught some really big eyes over the holiday weekend. Several fish over the 7# range including another 10# piggie. Lost a couple fish over the weekend that may have topped the 10# mark.

Look for my report up tonight. Definately BIG fish time!

Well, I guess it wasn’t just me. Two of us caught 2 walleyes, 2 white bass and one smallie Sunday afternoon in the wind.

What gives? Last year the walleyes were stacked-up by the airport and were active. I thought it would be loaded with 15-18″ walleyes. This year they seem hard to come by during the day.

Looks like I need to spend the extra time and drive to Redwing
