A few here have posted that there are open ramps but I have yet to hear any actual reports from the area – does anyone know anything? I am working on getting the boat ready but looking for a little encouragement. I know a day on the water beats almost anything else but…

I’m trying to see if I can get out yet today or tomorrow, I’ll let you know how I do if/when I get out there.

    Thanks guys.

I think there is still ice heavy enough for some to be walking on between the powerlines and the city landing….maybe even above that landing towards the dam. Lats weekend’s nice weather wasn’t enough to dislodge anything as far as I know. I do think people are able to launch Belevedere and fish to above the power lines, but how far up that chute I don’t know.

Our present weather will likely re-freeze anything that was lost a week ago. Put another coat of wax on the water buggy and relax for a few more weeks.

I drove by yesterday and the water is open from the dam to past the power plant, I did not see any boats so not sure of the situation at the launch. Could try the bait shop in Alma for current conditions?

Thanks for the info guys. A buddy of mine is heading that way in the morning to check it out – if it is clear, I will be meeting him to wet a line. I’ll report back either way.

Stopped at power plant landing yesterday. Couple guys were having trouble loading boat. Said it was open when they put in but some big chunks of ice drifted in while they were out. They said bite was slow. Good luck.

Sorry I did not get to post this earlier but the ramps were froze in this morning and we decided not to go out. Took my son for a walk in woods instead but no luch there either.

Maybe next weekend or I might have to run the 100 miles up to visit Everts.

This is my first time on the site. Was wondering when things usually get going on the river. Heading down to Lake Fork, Texas next Sunday. Was down there a month ago and got a 9lb largemouth! It was the only bite I had in 3 days. I’m looking forward to meeting guys who fish the river. I also have a place up on Vermillion and have been learning that Lake as well.

Welcome aboard Trashman. Things get going as soon as you can get into open water around here. The bite usually starts a bit slow but comes on with the warmer temps and the spring run-off. You can learn a lot for the guys on here, just keep following the posts and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Is there a specific area on the river you plan to fish?

Good luck in TX, I hope there is a little more action for you but I’m sure that 9# was worth it.

    Trashman,

Sound like your main interest is bass. In most years we start catching bass on pool 4 around the 1st of April. The earliest I had a consistant bite was in 2001 when the ice went off lake Pepin in Mid March. That year My 1st multi-bass day was March 18.

    P.S. enjoy Fork!
