Well I drove down to the Lilydale ramp today and it isn’t looking good. Pretty thick ice about 20 yards out to the open water.

Tons of open water up and down stream but the ramp definitly isn’t usable.

The ramp itself is solid ice about 1/2 way down. If you have winch on the front of your truck you might stand a chance. I could barely walk down the ramp.

Thanks for the update. That Lillydale landing usually takes a while to open up. There is not much current going by it near shore and with it facing north it does not get much sun. Not sure of what the water levels are supposed to do on pool 2 in the next few days but a increase in flow sure would help.

Just an FYI I drove over the 494 bridge in SSP and the landing under it looks open and in decent shape. Some shore ice north of the bridge. Is the construction of the bridge causing any disruptions at that ramp?? Good luck guys and if anyone ever needs an extra stick in the boat let me know. Im a newbie to P2 and would love to learn a few things.

the construction down there does not disrupt the ramp at all, i’ll be out this afternoon from about 3pm-9. hoping to stick the first big P2 girl of the year!

Hey Mike W. – Here is something you may want to add to your Pool 2 Tool Box. This is the link to the National Weather Service Mississippi River water level predictions for the Twin Cities. It is helpful when you are trying to plan a trip around rising and falling river levels. I follow the one on the St Croix closely during high water and it is usually pretty accurate.

What is the best way to get to the Hidden falls ramp? I come from the east side of the cities.

Shepard rd turns into mississippi river blvd which will take you right to Hidden Falls park turn.

Now if I could find one of those tools that could help me time my Pool 2 trips based on the rising and falling temper of my wife…

Well we were up in St.paul today So I had to make the drive.

Hidden falls, the current is moving pretty good, but it’s opened up a bit, but it’s pretty much iced up from Highway 5 to past the confluence, river opens up south of the confluence pretty good, Minimal ice now from 35 to lilydale (didn’t verify it much further than that…)

Lilydale is gonna need a bunch of sunlight to be usable the ice is wicked Like some posted earlier, I wouldn’t use it without one huge winch. (think tow truck)

River north of the dam was solidly iced over from what we seen.

Drewsdad, my son, Jackson and I hit Pool2 at 494 yesterday afternoon. A lot of crusty ice we had to break through to move around anywhere. Most of the wingdams were inaccessable. Toward sunset, a very thin layer of crust began forming on the top of the water making any kind of pitching impossible…Jigs and blades either could not punch through or the line would hang preventing the jigs from dropping cleanly.

Todays warmer temps near freezing point should help things out.

Good luck guys and be careful out there…a lot of ice moving around.
