was down at the ramp yesterday, the open water is visible as you look toward the dam. a couple more days it should open up pretty good if the shore ice and ramp snow go away we could be fishin soon.
I hope so! But that ice is WAY thicker than I expected(i checked). I think it is going to take more than a couple days to open er up. But I hope I am wrong
I went down after work yesterday and snapped a couple pix…one facing upstream and one facing down. Lots of ice. It was a little depressing. There were a couple other guys there with the same twitchy cabin fever look on their faces that I imagine I had on mine. Im gonna guess three more weeks at least.
That may be the story up there, but after some work by Micah and myself the 494 boat landing is launchable! Now this may not be the same quality as a Dean boat landing but it works. I put in this afternoon to see how far up and down I could make it… well not as far as I was hoping. I didn’t do a ton of fishing so no report today, but won’t be long.
Here is another one looking down river. There is a pretty good blockage of ice just down river from the ramp. After that it is open to the 1st bend. Who knows after that.
Thanks for the update Mike, you think its safe to skid a Jon boat across ice and motor up toward dam? I magine its wide open from the launch upstream to dam? May try it this wk end. Thanks
Safe? Most likely not the safest thing to do. Possible? I was wondering the same thing. Got me thinking about hauling my jon boat home from up north this weekend. It is ice free from the landing up to the dam. You can see that from the bridge.
Rainy River vets can attest that this method isn’t that risky. I will be able to say I was the first to offer p2 eyes the new goldcracker ringies….. I will report on how I do. Thanks again
