Here’s a quick report of the fishing at the Red Wing dam today. In general the bite today was spotty for “most” people. There were a handful of guys that limited out with nice fish, but there were more guys saying the bite was tough, or all they could catch were small sauger. The artificial baits are definitely putting the nicer fish in the boat. Sonars have made a comeback the past few days with the water warming back up into the mid forties. Ringworms, superdoos, K-grubs and hairjigs all had their shining moments today for some people. Gold, silver and black sonars seemed to be the most popular colors. The purple white tip, purple chartreuse tip, black and silver, and oyster shell ringworms had some good reports today. Any superdoo that had brown, orange or blue in it seemed to be working as well today. The jig and minnow is catching numbers, but the size hasn’t been anything to brag about from what i’m hearing.

All in all, it wasn’t a bad day, but it is not the fall fishing i’d expect for this time of year. I’m willing to bet this forecast we have will get em going better again next week. Sorry for the brief report, but wanted to get something out. Good luck to all.

Thanks Steve. Not sure if you read my report yet or not but we you’re hearing back at the resort is EXACTLY what I’ve been seeing and doing on the water. And you’re right, the rivr has had some shining moments this fall but it really hasn’t cut loose like one would expect it to. It will yet, I guarantee it. The question is when. This weekend does look promising!

I knew I should of grabbed some of those black and silver colored ringworms off the shelf. I just had to leave a color left on the shelf didn’t I. That was the sonar color too that worked best last Sunday after I kept switching colors. Well back to get more ringworms. Thanks for the reports. Thanks, Bill

    thanks Steve,
was down today from 10am til about 5pm with a friend and his new boat. I caught a limit of Saugers with the biggest being 18″ and 17″, but overall bite was slow, used superdoo, blades, some ringworm. the pumkinseed/brown Doo was my best bait. tried some old spots from RW to dog house up to Y then dam. not many fish caught and nothing big, could not be there for the low light bite. was hoping to get one for a pic but that did not happen. Hope back soon , but family in town for the next 2 weeks is going to mess up the water time.
    more soon Jack.

Good report Steve. Two of us fished Thursday from the wye to the dam and found fishing was like you outlined. Ended keeping 10 fish primarily sauger, caught in 15-18 ft, on everything from plastics to bare jig and minnow. Colors wasn’t a big factor. Keep up the reports, being from Iowa I don’t get to fish Red Wing as often as I would like but I always enjoy to read the reports.

I did get the chance to make it out for a few hours Thursday also. But nothing to brag about for me!

I did a little bit of jiggin then I threw out the handlines, and nothing but minni’s for me. At the end I threw on a Impact soft plastic hook and a k-grub and was handlining that 2 15″ fish right off the bat I had never tried anything but lures before it was pretty cool!

Heres a question for you all??? When you pull up to a crowd of boats do you drive threw them wide open? Or slow it down in respect for other fisherman?

I almost got rocked out of my boat a few times yesterday! The fish are not going anywhere there is a dam in the way so please take your time when there are boats all over!!!

    Hope it picks up soon

    Good Luck Fishing

    Dang it!

Hate getting in and reading the report from James, and thinking to myself, “Self? You thought of doing what he described, but you didnt!”

All in all, My boat was in the same boat as everyone else, that I am hearing about, well, everyone but James! #$^%@# Looks like his fishing partner was better looking too!
Anyhow, we caught fish, and once again I was pleasantly pleased with the average size, just a little disapointed after how I did Friday. Most of our fish came on SuperDoos, we tried casting shallow at first light, but that wasnt productive for us either. The nice thing with a slow bite, I found, is it forces me to try new spots, to explore a little! That is a lot of river down there, and, I am going to make a point of fishing somewhere new each time I am down there! That Darn river is addicting! I have Sunday off, and I am actually contemplating going down there!!

Hey B Sander! Sorry about blowing by ya yesterday! (JK) I hear what ya mean, I think some think it is Nascar, not fishing!

Jack was that you driving that Warrior from the wrong end ? Where you able to handle that rig without a “Training Wheel”?
