Ya Hey Eyes, It was moi – gofish. Why didn’t ya come over and intro. yourself !! I was checking some patterns out for some clients. Every day that pools had something different go’n, plus the Corp is really mess’n with the flow, as usual.

My Lab is the best fish’n partner a guy could have !!! She’s got to kiss every Walleye that comes aboard ! Now if I could only get her to “point” the fish, I’d really have someth’n !!! I’ll probably be mov’n south this week – New Boston should be heat’n up, what with the water temps finally get’n in the 30’s

I’m heading out Wedensday for pool 14 eye fishing. Anyone do any downriver fishing on 14 lately? What’s been working downriver or at the dam? I’ve not been out in a month and the fever is in full force. Gotta get a bend or two in the rod to last me through the winter!

Yo Rooster, I’ve been wanting to work the dams at Camanche but the south winds we’ve been have’n has made to no good. You know what that stretch can look like !! Caught some nice Wallys at the shallow w.dam just above the old barge terml. before the bridge.

The tail water has been mixed (ref. Pool 14) Troll 3-ways on the lower flat back to the first dam. Vert. jig the small Lock.

Live bait rig the Ia. side rocks. Some nice fish have been come’ in. Today my boat caught more nice Walleye than Sauger which is pretty unusual, given the kind of numbers we have on these southern pools.

    kreading,

I didn’t know anyone fished that little dam besides me! It is a great bass and northern dam in summer, low water, etc., and higher flow it is one of my “gotta hit” spots for eyes also. Not many boats hit that dam. I have several pounds of lead and plastic laying in the outer end of those rocks!!!

Thanks for the report. I live on the big bend in the river just a couple miles north of Albany. I know what you mean about the south wind. I fish the Albany/Camanche wings heavily in summer, but have not been on them since August. If time allows I’ll give em a try and post my results. There are some excellent dams there.

Did you three way any stick baits, or do I need to bring a little live bait in the boat? I generally have some fatheads along, but have been wanting to experiment more with just artificials. What do ya think?

Keep your eye out for the rough looking gray and maroon Sea Nymph Fish n Ski with 60 Johnson. That’ll be me.

    Good Fishin’,

Nothing to brag on at New Boston. Some fish are being caught, but the bigger fish are at Burlington. Not a lot tho.

These stages and flows are like a yo-yo.

Hello all, have been reading your messages on a daily bases for some time now and decided to join in and contribute when I can.I have been fishing the arsenal dam in pool 16-last, fri, mon, tue this week and it’s been slow! Theres been a few 16”-18” saugers caugnt but very few. They started closing the rollers on mon on the main river, the first three are closed now on the Iowa side. Maybe that will change things. Thanks for the great web site and allowing me to be a part of it! Good fishin!

Ya Hey, guys, GOOD TO HEAR FROM YA ! I thought I was key bang’n all by my self and give’n reports to gosts !!!!!!!!

Our dams have been rough on us this year -A. Try make’n a living by guide’n. One day I’m Al Lindner, next day Hogans goat ! If the boat ramps don’t get iced in first, our best days should be come’n !!

Say you guys can help me (hopefully a little later) ! Snow removal . Most times the river is open, but the ramp has snow on it..ie Davenport – Marquet street ramp. Call City Hall – Charlie Heston, 326-7766. Usually -Parks or Public Works will plow but it usually takes some calls. I usually call Heston 3-4 times and disquise my voice. Like most public officials he only works when there’s public outcry—Ha!!!

I’ll be fishing Pool 16 soon. New Boston produced some real nice Walleyes for me today ! I was pulling Rapalas off 3-ways. Later Gofish

Yo Rooster !!! Hear I thought I had some secret spots! Ya stick baits, some of the old boys where use’n minnows & 3-way ! I might just drop by and see’ya. You serve any Leinie’s ? Speak’n of Albany, I wanted to go into Sunfish Slough (I hadn’t fished it for a few seasons and wanted to see if I could still catch some Bass & Crappie) I went to enter from the down river side and darn near knocked my lower unit off ! I’m still not sure where the opening chute is !! The river changes every year (from bad to worse)! Gofish

Ya Hey “BIG B”, Bellvues been uncharacteristically lousy this fall, so don’t feel like the lone ranger !! I’ve been use’n the DNR ramp since the main ramp’s been a mud hole. I took the opportunity to stop at the DNR building to ask if it was me or the fish’n. Thankfully the DNR guy said it was the fish (thank god) and not me !! Slow all fall, no biological reasons at this point. Check my Fish Reports log and you see a Bellv. from last week . Later Gofish

    Hey kreading,

Sorry, somehow I missed your post about Sunfish. When you banged your motor you were right out from my picture window! I live at the lower end of Sunfish, but no river access. I have seen a lot of boats having trouble out there since the flood. I don’t fish sunfish much anymore, except for in the spring it holds some VERY nice eyes. I clanged my merc going in this summer, and I thought I knew where I was going!

I don’t have any Leinie’s on hand, but give me some advance notice and I’ll get some on ice! Good fishin,

hey there gofish,i check this board just about every day,and it seems to me that all the northern pools talk about is how good the fishing is,we too have had some good fishing, but i never notice the upper pools have the problem of up and down water, seems like every day it changes around here.is it me or is there a conspiracy from the corp of engineers,to make it really interesting fishing, thanks eyesrit didn’t get out today, but we are going somewhere tues.

I doubt it’s a conspiracy. Just seems that if someone takes a pee in St. Paul, we get a foot raise down here.

Ya Hey Der Eyes, Ya if we only had half the fishery as the Northern boys have. It does seem like a conspiracy with the Corp working the water. They say the computer system for setting the rollers is great, but I can show you spawning beds

ruined by their computer aided roller settings.

The water flow is getting better and remains fairly clear. We should kick some butt this week and next. Good Luck Gofish

Another thought on the water !! From where the Wisc. River

at Prairie du Ch. enters we have at least “8” other tributaries

that flow into the big Miss. before it gets to our Pools !!

Hey gofish, were you out Tuesday on 14? A.M. or P.M. I got out about noon, just after our wonderful friends at the corp had dropped all the rollers and from what I heard, really messed things up. We managed some nice saugers on the Illinois side late afternoon, low end of the lock, but worked really hard for some time before getting them. What kinda boat are you running? I don’t have my FTR sticker on my boat yet, thinking of repainting this offseason. Maybe I saw ya out there and did not know it!

I always thought the corp just saw me coming and changed the rollers, did not know the computer was the culprit that did not like me! I made it half way to the dam from Fulton and ran into 20-30 LARGE limbs floating down from the roller adjustments. Knew I was in for a challenging time after that!

Herb, I like the pee theory…think it multiplies!

rooster,i still say it is a conspiracy.we fished 15 tue.up the slough, caught a couple of sauger, then went below the the rollers.they had 3 rollers shut down, marked alot of fish but caught nothing.went by there this morning after taking wife to work, and they had the water rolling again.did ok there last year, but they had half the rollers shut and you could fish it.when i talked about fishing the dam at 14 before,i meant the dam in leclaire.ever do any good there….where do you get those ftr stickers…..thanks eyesrit……

    eyesrit,

I have not fished below 14 much, not at all for several years. I mostly fish below 13, and sometimes go to Bellvue. Bellvue has been very slow this year though. Work on the lock I believe may be the culprit. When 13’s lock work was done the fishing suffered for 2 1/2 years, it’s just coming back to par. herb is correct about the stickers. Stillakid should still have some. They are very well designed and made of the best decal material money can buy. Scotch. (Can’t tell I work for 3M can you?) You’ll like the decals. I am not sure what donation he asked for them, believe it was $5.00 and a SASE. The money went to help keep the site going and improving and help with the cost of the annual FTR get together. I wnet up to Redwing for that last August. What a great time!

I have to agree the corps has a conspiracy after some of the recent stunts they have pulled. Nearly killed me Tuesday, that story’s on the general discussion thread of kreadings.

Good fishin, let us know how it goes at 14, maybe I’ll swing down and give it a try if weather permits.
