Got out Sunday afternoon and from the second I pulled down the launch I noticed something differant… A ton of seaguls and when I say alot I mean ALOT. From 494 to the airport they were thick and crapping al over. I have never seen anything like it. I fished a few wingies with little success. Water temp was 34. The two fish that were caught came on Pro blue ringworms. Sure was a nice afternoon with no wind! Anyone else benn out lately?

Would Pool 4 be a better bet right now? It sounds like Pool 2 has to much baitfish. Any suggestions for someone planning on going out tomorrow?

Steve and I were out on Saturday. The bite was SLOW. And the seagulls were hard at work picking up the dead and dying shad that are everywhere on the river right now. Me thinks those pool 2 walleyes have plenty of easy chow to go around right now.
Sounds to me like #2 is ready to start in a big way if the shad are starting to kick off.
November 25, 2008 at 3:31 am #724279Things have been mighty slow for the last couple weeks so those shad can’t die fast enough.
Repeat after me… die shad, die!
November 25, 2008 at 3:57 am #724286Sealegs made it out after the Vikes game on P2. The report from guys pulling off the river was it was slow! We found it slow until it got dark and then things picked up from 645 to 745pm we caught 15-20 in that hour! Nothing big but it was pretty good action. Hard to leave!

Sounds like a new Pool 2 fight song!
November 25, 2008 at 1:32 pm #724318Wonder if dragging FishTraps off the breaks in that area wouldn’t produce…
Since I worked 10 hours on my vacation day yesterday, I think an afternoon jaunt to Pool 2 is in order today.
If anyone cares to hop along for the ride, send me a PM.
November 25, 2008 at 2:44 pm #724329those seagulls are really thick….especially by the giant toilet just south of the airport where the water is 10 degrees warmer. its like a scene from “the birds”…along with about a go-zillion 4 inch shad flopping around.
Die shad die!

I’ll have to remember that. I can use that one the next time I get skunked down there
This started about a two weeks ago. Every time a tug goes by it has a million gulls folloing it too. Like they’re shrimp boats or something. Looks cool but I sure wish the fishing would pick up.
I got about $40.00 worth of PaddleTails, Ringworms, and H2O jigs for my birthday so I’m ready to go!
November 25, 2008 at 10:03 pm #724429Happy Birthday Rootski! Many more to ya.
I’ll be heading out tomorrow as I snuck in an extra vacation day to stretch out my stomach for Thursday. Has there been much ice coming down??? I heard the MN was pretty jammed up last weekend.
November 25, 2008 at 10:21 pm #724439Small chunks of ice on Saturday. And they weren’t all that numerous.

Same on Sunday.
November 26, 2008 at 1:33 pm #724535Got out yesterday (11/25). small/thin chunks right now.
The seagulls by the Pig’s Eye discharge are unbelievable. I floated through the mass of gulls and there are thousands of dead shad in the water. There appeared to be countless numbers of large fish marks underwater too.
Did manage one 19″ walleye pitching a pro-blue paddletail at wingdams. Did not stay long after dark. Guess that one is missing out on the Thanksgiving feast nearby.
I’m very encouraged by the overall number of 15″-20″ fish I’ve seen this fall in general. I think this fishery is going to see a lot more sumo-sized walleyes in the next couple years.
