Had the opportunity to share the boat in pool 5 Sunday with 2K’s hopeing to get him on a decent river adventure which up until now has been avoiding him! He is always a pleasure to have along with all the BS & smack talkin flyin about! I thought it best to get him started on pulling stick baits right away to hopefully break the ice & kick that darn skunk out of the boat.Well it didnt take but a couple minutes & the fine fragrance of Walleye boarded the boat overpowering that other darn smell he kept dragging about with him to the river. From 7:30 – noon we boxed 6 fish with around a 16.5″ ave. mix of Walleye & Sauger.Catching I would say about 30 + fish. All along Kevin kept saying we could catch fish like this on our home lake. Went & had lunch a little stretch time & regroup for the afternoons events.Got back on the water at 1:30 I thought now would be a good time to hit some wingdams & do a bit of pitching, looking for a bit larger sized fish, getting rid of that saying I could remember hearing more than once (we could do this on our home lake). Started pitching blades & WHACK then a drop,WHACK then a drop,WHACK then BINGO fish on 14+ inch smallie comes aboard.Next cast a twin brother blesses us with his presance.Water temps hovering here around 38 deg.& this pair of fish fought like it was 50 deg. Getting numerous hits pitchin blades only hooking up about 25% of the time. We ended up with 2 chunky Smallies,2-White bass ,1-17″ Walleye & the allways present Sheepie pitchin blades.Quitting this technique around 3:00,opting to pull stickbaits for remainder of daylight as the bite seemed a bit more aggressive.Dropped cranks back down & within a short time we were back into fish.Finished the day with 2K’s boating a 22+” cpr fish & saying “We might have caught this at our home lake ! ” .We ended up taking home 10 fish averaging close to 17″ & catching well over 50 fish for the day, largest being the 22+” & having a fairly good day on Pool 5,considering the mid 30’s temps., wind & snow periodically coming from the sky.Now if I could get rid of that goofy saying I kept hearing that still rings in my head.(We could have done this on Wissota!) Kevin not while your driving! Best of luck fishing all. WHITE TIP
