Just wondering if any one is fishing the Wi channel or the main channel down around Red Wing. It seems like most of the posts are from up closer to the dam. After reading Turks report I hope things pick back up. Hope to be out Sunday somewhere. I’m still trying to find a deer for the freezer and I’m heading to a stand now and tomorrow. Please post if anyone is trying the back channel or main river around red wing or collvile park.

    lienieman,

I have caught fish in all of those locations in the past few weeks. The fish are there you just need to figure them out. I have been doing real good fishing shallow with plastics and occasionaly hair jigs. You are all alone to boot no other boats to get in your way, very peacefull!

    See ya on the river!

Thanks Dustin, I’m still looking for that deer. Saw six tonight from the stand and couldn’t get a good clean shot off at the first three and the second three saw me before I saw them. Will try again tomorrow. Hope to be on the river soon. I like the idea of not too many other boats around and nice and peacfull time to figure things out. Should be cold tomorrow and warm up some Sunday.Good luck if your out this weekend.

    Hey Lienieman

If you go back and check my last report you’ll notice we had our best run of numbers and biggest walleye “6 miles south” of the dam. In my book, the dam is a reliable place to catch SOME fish… but its usually not the best place to be when you get right down to it. Its one of those “when all else fails” kinda spots. That being said, a guy can almost ALWAYS catch fish below the dam… hence the crowds. If I fished as much as the average guy, averaging 6 times a year or so, I’d do the same darn thing most likely.

If you’re looking for peace and quiet and your honest best shot at numbers of above-average sized fish, don’t go north of Everts.

Those fish up near the dam are so heavily pressured that you usually have to be on your best game to put more than one nice sized walleye in the boat. (Some days good old-fashioned luck will get ya’ one!) Downstream, fish really don’t get hit that hard and they kinda act a bit nieve a bit more often than the fish up to the dam that see thousands of fireball jigs in a week.
