Anyone been out of Hidden Falls or the dam area lately?

thanks for the updates DeeZee-how easy is it to find and catch some fish out of the 494 area? Is there a couple of community spots that you could point out if a guy wanted to start fishing that area? I know that some have mentioned the hole right next to the landing as being productive. Are there other well known spots that are easy to find and always hold some fish?

    Thanks for any updates.

    Dave,

Yes, I agree the airport is a “Go To” area Drifting the channel side of the Red markers is a good starting point for Sauger. There are wing dams inside the channel markers, so keep an eye on your depth working towards shore for Walleye.

    Dave,

I agree totally with the above posts. These drifting holes will produce saugers and a mix of walleyes. As Jon mentioned stay shallower for the eyes. Look to the first break into the hole and hug this area. Alot of times this will produce some nicer fish. Another area for drifting is just below 494 bridge. Start just below the first red marker and drift down until the river starts to bend. This area can produce some nice fish as well.

Dave, you have probably seen my recent reports on Pool 2 and the wingdams are kicking out some above average fish right now. Up by the airport, there are some popular wingdams that are worth a stop. Some of the bigger wingies get most of the intention, But do not neglect some of the smaller secondary wingdams that are up there. These spots as of lately have been turning more and better fish than some of the bigger (more flow) wingdams. Another sauger spot is inside Mud Lake. This deep little lake has a history of kicking out walleyes and saugers right now. I had some action in there a couple weeks ago, but have not been in there since. Stay in the 8-15 ft for the walleyes and deeper for the saugers. Just work slowly around the edges with a jig/minnow.

    Good luck

Keep us all posted on your findings.

    Where is Mud Lake?

Mud Lake is just north of the pigs eye lake entrance just up from 494. You will see a couple sunken barges on your right side and you enter just on the north side of the them. Gets real shallow on the way in and then she drops off, keep going all the way in and you will enter another little lake on the left side. This is mud lake. This lake has a little current flow through there and is completely loaded with baitfish right now. You will see the gulls in there thick. It has a very quick drop off around all the shores. Kind of reminds me of a deep bowl. Anyway, work the edges with a rig and minnow or a jig/minnow. Plenty of crappies in there right now as well. Although this lake does freeze over pretty quick with any sign of a couple cold nights. IF you get a chance soon, give it a try. In the past, I have beached my boat on the shore and carried my icefishing gear onto the ice and caught crappies and saugers.

    Good Luck

I’ve been in mud lake during the summer. The graphs go crazy there and it seems like the fish just stay there all year round. But you’re right about the shallow parts. Takes some real maneuvering to get into the lake itself. We’ve always trolled there without much success, but we’ll have to see about fishing jig and minnow. I’d like to find some of those fall crappies. I hear that they’re big and hungry all the time.

Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, Teach a man to fish and you’ll never see him again.

So that is what you call Mud Lake. I have tried getting back there before but gave up. The water was just too shallow at the time. Sounds like I’ll have to give it another shot! Thanks for the info!
