Fished Pool 3 on Saturday and really struggled. Fished from about 8:00 – 4:00 and only caught one 15″ walleye, one small smallie, a sheepshead, and a 4 lb carp. I fished from Dam # 2 downstream to about Mileys, mainly fishing the wingdams but I also trolled some cranks on some sandflats. I also tried drifting some ringworms across some of the sand flats but didn’t have any success. The DNR checked me around 11:30 and said the only person they checked that had much was a guy fishing from the shore near the Hasting dam that had some nice saugers and walleyes. I talked to a couple of boats that had fished under the bridges at Prescott but they said things were very slow for them too. I talked to another boat that went into Mileys but they didn’t find anything there either.

I also fished Thursday afternoon/evening and only caught one walleye but it was nice (27″ that weighed 7 lbs 13 oz.) I hardly ever weigh the fish but this one looked pretty chunky.

The conditions seemed ideal both days. I don’t know if I was doing something wrong or was in the wrong location or the fish just weren’t active…. On Thursday I fished until 7:00 p.m. thinking maybe the bite would pick up after dark but it didn’t seem too although I could hear quite a few active fish on the surface. I have no idea what kind they were. Last Sunday I had a good day fishing the wingdams.

Sure is nice to fish the river on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and not get bounced around with cruiser wakes all day!
