Anyone heading out on Satuday? It has been a few weeks, anyone taking fish on cranks? If I go, it will be out of Hidden Falls.
Thanks!
We were out at 494 yesterday and I have to admit we did poorly. Fished from the airport down to the ramp. Only caught a silver and a couple of sheepers. Looking to launch ay Lillydale and run to the dam tomorrow. Plan to start at the dam and work back to the Minnesota confluence. It should be a nice day to be on the water.
I expect to be out there in my old 12′ alumacraft w/ Merc in the afternoon. Say hello if you see me.
I’m no pro, but I would think with these extraordinary temps, the bait fish should be really schooling up, getting chased hard!!!! should be a great day on the water! Have fun and let us know how you do!
I will be out all weekend on Pool 2. I will be in my Warrior 2090 tiller. Saturday will be with my wife and trusty lab and Sunday will be solo or with one other person.
I have been pulling fish of the wingdams with cranks. Boated a 26″ the other night. Throwing small cranks. Real light jig/plastics did well the other night too.
The white bass are on the feed bag if you find the honey hole. Key is look shallow for the whities and if you find one, the rest are real close by.
Good luck,
Say hi if you see me.
Beautiful afternoon on the water. Thank God because the fishing was brutal. Caught one 22″ eye in 4 hours on the water. Saw one small sauger caught at the dam (with 8 boats fishing there). Got home and my friend had been out in the morning. 2 of them managed 3 10-12″ walleyes in 5 hours. I was marking fish all day, just couldnt get them to hit. Tried jigs, cranks, and 3 ways from the dam to the MN river. Water temp was 45 degrees.
Anyone else have luck?
DeeZee,
Could you please tell us how you go about fishing the wingdams at night? I’ve been trying to do this on Pool 3 a little this fall and have had a little luck but not much.
Do you anchor above the wingdams or do you use your trolling motor? What type of lighting do you use? Do you try to shine some light over the wingdam so you can see a little better? Also, do you move from wingdam to wingdam a lot or do you tend to stay in one place for quite a while? Are your best daytime wingdams also your best nighttime wingdams? Favorite cranks?
Any pointers would be appreciated.

Boone,
Honestly I have not done that much “wee hour” night fishing down there this fall. What I have done in the past though is find a good wingdam and put the anchor down and start fan casting the whole area. Put yourself in an area where you reach a large portion of the area with a cast. By putting the anchor down, this not only puts you in a precise location, but it is too tough to keep yourself “on the spot” with the bowmount in the current and at night. I have always put myself above the wingdam and cast back on it. I have had fishless nights and some very good nights off the same spot the next night. Go figure……
I have caught fish on a variety of lures at night. One of my favorite is a #12 or #14 husky jerk. Cast out and reel down until you make contact and then slowly make your way back to the boat with a nice slow steady retrieve.
As far as lighting goes. I do not use any “extra lights”. Before I put the anchor down, I make sure I am where I want to be and then after you are set, I use the feel of the lures to tell me where I am at on the wingdam.
Don’t forget big plastics either for casting.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck
