I’ve been having trouble filling my mid-week open seats and with the predicted weather coming I knew I needed one more shot at a pre-spawn female. After calling friends of friends I eventually made a call to fish2live and the agenda was set. We arrived at Evert’s a little to early for a chat with Dean so we put in and off we went. I’ve really been focusing on my blade presentation my last few trips and we planned on pitching them most of the day. After half a day of few eyes to the boat, but numerous monster carp I figured it was time to move to a shallow sand flat and it was a great decision. 10 minutes into our new spot I hear fish on and then “it’s another carp.” The only problem was the fish ended up being a 12.5 lb eye netted by me and happily fought and landed by fish2live.

After a quick meal of barbecue chicken and some advice of a few locals I knew it was time for the dragging bite to begin. An hour into us dragging I stuck 12.3 an eye and the bite never let up until we decided to call it a day. All fish came between 3 and 10 feet of water on a current seam on a sand flat. Alot of the fish are not overly aggresssive and you need to be patient. Some fish would hit the ringworms a couple of times before actually eating it, so I never set the hook until my rod tip loaded with the full weight of the fish.Very important not to horse these fish, when hooking a fish in 3 feet of water it is not uncommon not to see these fish for several minutes. They are tanks and will do everything they can to stay near bottom, we are often chasing them with the trolling motor. You never know just how big that fish could be this time of year. Purple/chartruse like always took top honors with a camo ringer taking second. The water is on the rise and fishing is constantly changing my advice is to stop and talk to Dean for the latest updates. I’d like to thank fish2live for filling my seat and I was glad to be your net man.
The first picture is a 29″ fish weighing 12.3 lbs with a 22 and 1/4″ girth. 2cd picture is a 30 and 1/4″ fish weighing 12.5 lbs and a 21″ girth. The 3rd is a 11.5 lb fish and the rest are between 10 and 11.
