Pool 9

Just so everybody doesn`t think that this is http://www.pool4.com this time of year, I figured that I’d tell you about what I did on Pool 9 this week. Fishing at Genoa was weak, especially in the strong winds that we had all week. Fishing in the De Soto area was good. I caught fish vertically jigging tubes. Tried hair and twisters and Super-Dos and shad tails……they wanted tubes. Talked to Hutch, he was catching fish on blades.

Also caught some nice fish on wingdams using 3/16 oz heads and ringworms on the days that the wind wasn`t too bad. Good wingdamming should continue for a while. I’d pick up one here, one there. Keep moving and try a bunch of dams and then go back to the producers again. This pattern should hold up on all pools right now.

    Go get ’em, Beav

Hey Beav, thanks for the report. I have my son home from basic training and he is half crazed to get to the river. We will fishing pool 9 or 10 this week as well as pool4 on thurs. As I remember, one can fish both pools on either a MN. or WIS. license the only difference being in possesion limits. Normally we both buy MN. licenses but as little b has been gone most of the season he hasn’t bought one yet. I will be in Prairie this week to pick up some baits from Hutch and fish, If I understand the law he can pick up a WIS license and be good from Genoa to Redwing. Am I correct? …..Thanks! B

Yes, a Wisconsin permit is good for the entire length of the state.

We were at pool 9 all last week and were catching tons(released) of nice Sauger and a few eyes, then Thursday and Friday we hit a lot of 17′-18′-19′ Walleyes. Lead head with ring worms.

    Have a good one!

John, any general location? Genoa dam, wing dams, rip rap?

The line at the dam was good until the front came through , then we had to move to the wing dams, but they just don’t hold that many fish. The line will be your best bet, along with the hump just off of the fishing float, also the breakline over by the false lock. Hope that helps — )

Beaver, was you tipping the tubes and hair jigs with line bait?

The only time I buy bait is when I need spikes for ice-fishing. No tipping needed. They inhale it. Just slip down-river and let it hover.

Thanks for the pool 9 post, nice to get some info on the pool. I am going to sound Like a greenhorn here, but what are tubes? And where can I get some ringworms? One more, where is hutchs shop in prairie, I would happily buy my supplies from a fellow FTR man. Thanks for the info. Good luck.

Tubes….Gitzits….whatever you call ’em. Hollow plastic tube with a shreaded tail section that looks like fine tentacles.

Call Hutch and make an appointment to get worms. He probably has tubes too.

    Call mid-day. Nothing early or late. 608 326 6764
