Brief Pool 5 Report

Fished Pool 5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, My partners were Hisser, ERonnengin and Champman. The fishing was pretty consistent all three days if you were in the right place. However, there were a few lulls and hot periods. The word was the shallow bite was good early in the week. We tried it every day but never got it going.
The fish seem to be in the 19-26 foot range and relating to the washboard bottom. We did drifts that were close to a mile long and caught fish scattered the whole way. The size doesn’t match Red Wing but it’s close to home and less crowed.
The best bite seemed to switch from vertical to dragging throughout the day. Any plastic with a chartreuse tail seemed to work.
The weather was great and we had enough action to make things interesting. We did catch 3 smallies, carp, buffalo, sheephead, white bass and a mix of walleye and sauger.
Both sides of the power plant launch are now open.

We were down on 5 Sunday my brother Jim shared my boat. We started our day about 10 AM dragging plastics and hair. First two hours Jim was kicking my butt with a Problue Chatreuse tail padddletail. Never caught a single fish on ringworms or hair. Later in the day Problue Superdoos were hot. Riverfan said it right the bite kept changing from slow to fast drag to almost vertical. Our fish came from 17 to 24 feet of water. Any type of bottom change or structure held fish for us.

Water temps were cold 34 once the temp starts back up the bite should really pick up

80 % of our fish were Suageyes or Walleyes. Many fish came to the boat I thought were Saugeres but further inspection had a white tail Check your fish for the white tail to make sure they are over 15 inches.

Move Move Move to find active fish.

I heard some good reports from Pool 5A but the guys were pushing boat over the ice into that water at Bass Camp since the ramps are not clear yet.

I fished Pool 6 on Saturday and my 11 year old and I kept our limit of saugers with one legal eye in the batch. The fee ramp at Breezy Point is wide open and just 100 yards to catching some fish.

Useable with 4WD. There was still snow on the parking area on Saturday.
