John,is the whole river opened up? Is the ramp by the dam on the Iowa side ok? Have a great day tommorow

Yes, the 25th ave north ramp is open. It is the one a block north of Main Ave. I would not recommend the ramp further north, I believe 30th ave north. It is not in good shape.
The main channel is open the length of the pool, at least it was today. I think we may need some luck. The river has come up two or three feet in the last few days, the flow has doubled, and muddied up some as well. I’m sure the fish are transitioning and scattered, but we’re going to give it our best shot tommorrow!stickmanPosts: 51March 17, 2008 at 1:37 pm #666027Yes, three of us fished up by the Dam and down to Beaver Slough and never touch a fish in 5 hours of fishing. Seen two fish caught all morning. River cominh up and muddy. 2 inches of visibility. TOUGHHHHHHHHH!!!
March 17, 2008 at 8:21 pm #666235Well, we made it up the dam this morning. Fished about 5 hours and managed two legal walleyes, one 19″ and one 17″, NO saugers at all. Both eyes came out of 10-12′ of slack water adjacent to the stronger current. One on a chart/pepper super do, the other on Junebug super do, dead sticking a couple inches off of bottom.
We saw one other legal fish being caught, and one dink. River is very dirty and fast. Hopefullly the fish will adjust to the drastic change in conditions by next weekend!
We fished from the dam down to Clinton river front, but both our fish where near the dam. Still beats workin’ though.March 17, 2008 at 11:13 pm #666314It looks like this coming weekend is going to be about 2ft. higher than it was today and flow up 10-12,000.I hope you caught 1 of those fish John,if not I bet you still had a good day on the water .Sounds like it was less than ideal conditions and a bit on the cold and damp side.
March 18, 2008 at 12:36 am #666358The bite on Sunday was terrible . I caught one fish in 8 hours on the water. I caught it at the 136 bridge on a three way. There is nothing like cold muddy water to kill the bite. I’m heading to Red wing on Thursday. I hope the bite holds up there. Good luck this weekend !
March 18, 2008 at 3:05 am #666455Rick, unfortunately I caught both fish. My brother does not get out much and I worked hard to get him on some fish, but he had one hit all day and missed that one.
jigfan, good luck to you at Red Wing! I envy you. I’ve not been up there in a few years, but I think this fall I’ll be going, if not before. Hope the bite is kickin’ for you!

March 20, 2008 at 2:32 am #667289Look for the fish to be in places you would not normally find them at this time of year. The current is really kicking, and level continues to rise. Find some slack water near the current and you can catch some fish, but I would not expect a hot bite. There is always the chance of finding a pocket of fish stacked up on a small area. I personally love the challenge of finding fish under tough conditions, but I’ve never been considered “normal” by those who know me.
By the way, welcome to the best site on the web cupspits!cupspitsPosts: 308March 22, 2008 at 3:23 pm #668127went out thursday broke in the new boat what a way to break it in the whole river was ice chunks flowing down it made it impossible to fish where u wanted u had to fish the only open spots which were very few the bite was very slow nobody pulled an walleye in we got two channels and a carp some guys snagged a few paddlefish that was the most action anyone had
