Night fishing?

Hey James, like I said at the landing I have never been out on the river at night. You throwing big grubs on rip rap up by the dam? I was throwing a big 6″ grub against the rip rap during the day last weekend. Is that only a night thing or will they hit that in the day to. All I got was a 15lb carp throwing that thing. What areas do you focus on (sand flats, rip rap). On another note, how’d you do down by the lake? I’ll be out there again this weekend. And if the weather permits I’m trying the night thing. Hope to see you out there.

    Hey Eric

No, the walleye will schmuck those plastics during the day too and I largely prefer to fish the dawn and dusk periods real shallow and basically call it a night if there’s not a big and bright moon over head. I’ve had great success using those plastics during the day so just pretend your bass fishing and just start pitching!

We did MUCH better down towards the lake than any where near the dam yesterday. Early on we had nearly a dozen smallies and two walleyes, one of which was pretty darn nice but decided to just say howdy and throw the hooks, but over-all the action on the ‘eyes north of Everts was slow. We did catch some decent smallies on everything from those big plastics, to hair jigs, cranks, and even on 6″ chubs on the shallow rocks so by no means is the bass bite done for the season yet!

Once we got down near the lake rigging crawlers was the ticket and we basically caught all walleye. 11′ – 15′ was the best depth range for us.

    See ya’ on the water.

Well, it sounds like I will be going bass fishing this weekend. I will have to explore down by the lake a little bit since I have never been down there. The dam area was really slow. I was using hair jigs, 6″ grubs, and three ways with large fatheads. I got several 18-20″ and several small fish but by no means was it anything to brag about. Hopefully it will be easier to fish. The dam area was a little crowded last weekend.

All the bass we caught came from deep rip rap with light current. The water temps have risen to nearly 53 degrees but they’re forecasting a bit of a cool down for tonight-tomorrow so that might impact the bass bite some.
