Can anyone tell me if either the Blevidere ramp or the ramp by the power plant in Alma are open? Is the channel open from Belvidere to the dam? I am really wanting to get out on open water but don’t want to go al the way up to Red Wing.

Last I heard, Belvidere was open. The ramp at Alma is typically frozen/snowed shut at this time of year. In a month or so, I’d expect that ramp to get opened up again, once we get some melt and some help from somebody in Alma with a plow/front end loader.

Thanks, I may give it a try before the river rises this spring…tough ramp with high water. That channel stays open up to the dam correct?

Yes, when I have fished Pool 5 in mid-winter, the channel from Belvidere to the dam is normally open. Watchout for icebergs!

I was through there Monday and the Belvidere landing was open but there was no way you were going to get close to the dam at Alma, even docking at Belvidere. I can’t really say how far north from Belvidere you could get on the main channel. Patience……….. Hopefully after this weekend coldsnap things will start to open up.

Down to single digits on Sunday and below 0 both nights, I think things will tighten up a little bit until we get into the warm up next week.

So what your saying is that I should head to Red Wing for my best chances. I have never launched up there….will Dean be nice to a new guy?

Oh my gosh…Dean especially likes Red Wing rookies. No worries….spend the extra 40 minutes in the car and go to Everts.

Understood–cookies for Dean, and be ready to listen!!! I can do that, if the weather holds next Friday the 15 I am heading to Red Wing. I will be the one confused but fishing hard.

Have your wife bake chocolate chip cookies and Dean will make sure you have fish in your boat–even if he has to go out there and get them himself.
