I was shot down w/ a flat trailer tire- so never made it out last weekend. Anyone been fishing the Hidden Falls area?
Thanks for any info-I plan on fishing Sat from 10am to 3pm or so. Is anyone else planning on hitting it on Sat?

Dave,
Not sure if it will be Sat or Sun. Got to get to Pool 4 and check some spots!!
Pool 2 – I would be putting in at 494 and fishing spots upstream to the airport when I go. If you see a Red Yarcraft, pull in and say Hi. I’d like to meet ya.

I wonder if I met you at the 494 launch about a month ago,I had a small jet driven jon boat and a white ford with ladders on top.We talked about fishing some of the back waters, and you asked if I wanted to sell my boat.If that was you I would take an even trade:D
Yep, that was me……. That is a sweet river boat you have! Don’t see too many guys running jets. I have come to the conclusion that I’m not going to find a used rig. I have been looking at new and have narrowed it down to a Crestliner Jon boat for the winter. Just need to wait a couple paydays.

If you are planning on putting a jet on it I would buy a jon boat with a flat bottom at the transom. If you don’t the jet will either not sit properly and create drag or it will suck air and you will go nowhere.
You will probably end up in your jon boat all the time.I have a vee hull fishing boat also but I really like the agility of a small boat.I only use the big boat on bigger water.
Your rig is sweet too.Offer still stands(I could buy 4 of my jons boats to your rig)
I’m going to run my Yamaha T-8 kicker off my summer boat as the main power for my winter rig. Won’t break any speed records, but it will do the job.
I’ll be honest. I have never been in a boat with a Tiller Jet Drive like yours. How do you like that thing? Not even sure how it works!! I have read in Bass & Walleye boat mag that you can run some shallow water with them – no problem.

I love it! Wet gravel is all you need Not really but I can skip through 4″ of water, less if it is a short distance. It is especially nice on the rivers that I fish most(MN and upperMiss)I can run right over snags and logs with just a little bump, just keep the boat between the banks is all you have to do.Its a regular out board motor with the lower unit changed out for a jet pump.Only the intake sits below the bottom of the boat(3″)It sucks water up,compresses it and shoots it out the back. The only disadvantages to it are that weeds and leaves will clog the intake. When that happens you have to tilt it up and clear the intake. And you have to have power to the motor to steer(there is no rudder) so if you clog or you lose power you cannot control the boat.It doesn’t happen often but does happen enough!Fall is especially bad!Lots of leaves floating around right now.
No luck at the dam on Sat. Marked a ton of fish below the hwy 5 bridge, nothing there. Finally found 4 nice (16-22″) eyes at the MN river confluence by the downed trees-and lost about 6 jigs in an hour.
Couple questions for anyone who may know:
I went right up to the dam for the first time (to the right of the island, through the fast water and to the left). There was fish there and a hole to 15′. I have seen people fish the area before, is there a time of year that this hole holds walleyes?
Hidden Falls gate closed again-very frustrating. Put in at Lillydale, found some awesome structure down there. Marked lots of fish-no bites. There are areas of 40-50′ of water right next to small shoreline points. Lot of trash on the shore(wrappers, cans, nightcrawler tins), like the area was fish heavily from shore. I dont hear much about people fishing this part of the river-from confluence to downtown St Paul. Anyone have any ideas? Seasons? Techniques? Areas to target?
Thanks
Guys are fishing cats from shore in those holes. Have done it a few times but not this time of yaer. August is prime time.
