Ya Hey, Buzzer , Gofish (FTR Staff) . Your fishing my pools.

Don’t feel like the lone ranger, pool 16’s been very tough all

summer. Now the Corp. is dreg’n the channel making the water real dirty. Hay, 18 is starting to go. That water being that far south is still warm (upper 50s). Tail water is proding some shorts and a few Saugers. 3-Way and Zonar have been tak’n em. The confluence of the Ia. River has produced several nice Eye lately by trolling a stick bait on a 3-way. I fished 5 hours Sunday below dam 17 and cought one little one. Used blades, 3 ways with both rapalas and minnows, jigs, and spoons. Worked the wing dams from the ramp (Toolesboro) as well as the sand ridges and holes in the first mile below the dam. Was pretty disapointing.

Only ‘tried and true’ fall area I didn’t hit (ran out of time) was the deep bank between the Iowa river and the ramp. Worked that last time I was out and was whipped there as well.

    it’s bound to pick up… right? : )

Local reports at lock and dam 13 have started to pick up a little bit, with very spotty good catches mixed in with a lot of poor reports. It is beginning to pick up here, so it should not be long before things begin heating up down river! Hang in there and if winter does not hit as early as last year, we should be in for a very good fall up and down the river!

I did not realize there were so many members here from this area! Great to see and I hope soon that we will have many more from Northern Illinois and eastern Iowa here!

    Hey All,

What do you all think that this front that is moving through on Wednesday night will do to the fishing for the weekend..Wind has to be blowin’ at LEAST 30 to 40 mph out there!!

Down here, the river has been on the rise with all the rain we’ve had. The Iowa is dumping a lot of muddy water right now.

Ya Hey, Buz – Forget it, maybe Sunday at the earliest. Lots

of dirty water coming down into that pool. If I where you I’d go up as high as Clinton (pool 14) to get to better conditions.

Pool 14 is also very muddy. Wind is keeping it whipped up and milky looking. Rule of thumb I use concerning cold fronts, three days of steady conditions(regardless of what the conditions are) make for better fishing. i.e., 3 sunny warm days, three cold blustery days, the 3rd day will be the best bet. If that holds, after this cold front I would say by Sunday afternoon the feed bag may come on! Anyone else go along with the 3-day theory?

    Herb,

I hear ya on the MOM thing! Between home and work infringments, I basically just go when I can! If I’m undecided about whether to go out I check on cold front history, water clarity, flow, all that stuff, then go anyway if I can!

Hey, did you ever make it up to 13 this summer?l

Finally got out for a few hours on sunday. Too much current and wind, but tried it anyway. Fished mostly just north of the ramp at Toolsboro landing which is south of L&D 17. One sauger and a couple stripes on 3-wayed cranks. Finished the day on crappie with only a few fish, but very nice size wise. If the 5 day river forecast holds true, things should get better by thurs or fri. Not sure what this full moon phase is doing to them. Perhaps the nite bite is better right now.
