I was thinking about heading down to Pepin on Friday… wondering if anyone can tell me what the walleyes are doing? Anyone been out recently?

The lake has been pretty darn spotty for the walleyes… the bottom end of the river before it hits the lake has been much better. Light jigs and crawlers have been best for me. Bring lots! I went through 12 dozen crawlers on my last trip… caught about 20 legal walleyes and fed uncountable numbers of 6″ catfish and sheepers.

Thanks for the response James… I saw a bunch of people around the head of the lake a couple weekends ago. I figured something must have been going on there. So nothing on the lake huh? Bogus Point area pullin’ cranks?

Bogus typically produces this time of year but you wouldn’t catch me out their on a bet, or a guide trip, counting on putting limits in the boat. For limits, all walleye, the lower river north of the lake is the best thing going to my knowledge.

Those 6” catfish are everwhere. Fun to keep your reflexes quick but a pain when you want eyes. Let us know how you do. Thanks, Bill

    James-
Sure would appreciate any additional advice you could give on patterns for the lower end of the river by the upper end of the lake. We are heading out to pre-fish this Saturday for the Happy Hookers Fishing Club Contest next Saturday. The lower end of the lake (where I have been concentrating my efforts) has been sketchy at best, and, with me being in second place for the coveted Fisherman of the Year Award with two contests to go, I need all the help I can get!
By the way, if anyone is interested in the Happy Hookers Fishing Club, send me a pm and I will fill you in. We are always looking for more members.
