Mav…. Good to see that in this time of international stress you have resolved your issues in the boat and on the river.

Had a pretty ggod day. Lots of small saugers in all the usual places. Some eyes, one a really fat 24″. Scattered pockets. Don’t get stuck on any one location. Loved the Warrior! Keep it vertical!

    GP!,

CRR (croix river rat) told me that you had won a recent Pool 4 Tourney? Good job sir! First place!!! A first place finish takes strong mind control! A -1.

I bet anyone that 24″er you caught recently weighed 4.5 to 5 pounds! if they were typical of the fish we caught tuesday!!! Did she feel heavy? That’s an interesting topic to me because eggs in the belly just started showing up on the Croix a two days ago. I was just thinking that prior to fish producing eggs they may take on extra water or something and weigh heavy, I suppose I’ll have to start weighing fish!!!

One point about fish weighing heavy – I’m aware naturally that fish can be fatter from year to year, but the fillets were so thck ..just before the eggs showed…? Can one of the many experts at the DNR fill us in?

    Warriors are nice!!!

    Keep catchin’

Don’t know where that rumor got started, no 1st for me! The best I finished this year was 7th. You are right about the 24, she was like a little football! Saw eggs in some sauger a week ago, haven’t been catching enough eyes in the river to know about them . I know how these stories go, but… I was jigging really big creek chubs and lost a very nice eye at the boat. She did the last run thing under the boat, I tried to go around the bow and cut off on the trolling prop. Oh well, she’s there for next time. Got to see her, real good fish. They always are when they get away! See you on the river. Keep it vertical.

I’m no biologist but try this one out: Water temerature. In the spring the fish are triggered by water temperature to spawn. Why not in the fall too? Only problem is the temperature goes the other way so the fish don’t have time to lay eggs before gets really cold. Or maybe they do and don’t get fertalized because of cold temperatures. Seems like the same migration to shallow water they do in spring as they do in the fall. Maybe to eat or maybe to spawn. Or maybe eat before the spawn. Don’t find too many in the winter months (DEC & Jan) that have eggs. Only really big females. But seem to see smaller females in fall with eggs. Although, can’t imagine fish too hungry with belly full of eggs. My wife didn’t eat too much when she was 7-9 months along. Lots of little snacks. Just a theory.
