I have heard alot of talk about one eyes . I bought a few of them but I would like a few pointers on how to use them effectively. I would asume you vertical jig them but I’m not sure. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

They’re a lead spoon-type bait, vertically jigged for Walleyes.

    They kinda look like these.

just snap them up about 1-3 feet and let them free fall with just a tiny bit of slack so you can detect the bite. not that it’s hard, they usually slam them. as you can see from my last report, there are days when every species will hit them. right now the water is in the mid 60’s and it’s perfect for using them.

To add to Andy’s post It helps to us high vis braided line and swivel and then 1 to 2 foot mono leader. Fish lots of time hit on the fall. I have hardly seen any body us this technique on the MN/WI pools, but is seems to be very popular on the IA/IL pools.

I pick a few up at the sports show at the QCAA . They were in Hutch’s booth next to K&K .

I have used one eyes on both pools 9 and 10. I like to jig them around wing dams, or throw shallow and jig back. They are ok for the vertical/drift thing too. Fish usally hit on the drop. My opionion is to use a superline like power pro, fireline whatever, with a pole that has a soft tip. I have found too stiff a tip will pull the hook out. I get much better hook ups with a softer tip rod. Hutch has great oneyes. I like the silver and silver purple ones from him, just catch more fish more often with those colors. He has lots to choose from. 1/2 oz seems to be the ticket for most situations for me.

    jigfan,
I’ved used them a little on 13 and 14. Had some really good days with them, but I’ve only fished them vertically. I’ll have to give them another look now! You got me thinking.

I’ve never casted a 1 eye before but it shoud work,I do know a guy that will cast a blade bait instead of vertical jigging it,and I’ve seen him catch fish on it.

Pitching blades has been my most produtive method my last couple trips out. I did catch a fish off a wing dam pitching a one eye saturday. The also catch a lot of drum and stripers. I lost all my one eyes so I’m going to order some from Hutch . Has anyone found any locally? Quad city area.
