quick report for sunday morning. We caught three off the first dam we stopped at the largest was a 24.5 incher. I thought maybe there going to cooperate today . As soon as the sun got up the bite quit. We fished 5 more hours and only boated 1 more fish an 18 incher. Looks like the dog days are here. 2 fish came on jig and crawler the other two were on a reaction bait. It’s going to be in the 90’s all week thats not going to help the bite at all. Good luck !

The dog days are here but the full moon probably had more to do with the bite dying once the sun got up in the sky. When the moon is at or close to full phase the fish gorge themselves at night. I made it out yesterday (Sunday) up on pool 12 at DBQ. I tried to spend most of my time walleye fishing but I ran into a large school of stripers and had to get in on a little top water action for an hour or so. Lots of fun. I found walleyes but I had to hunt for them finding one here, one there. I ended up catching 4 walleyes. 2 were over 20″ and 2 were around 17″. The key for me was deeper structure with as much current on it as I could find. I also caught several bass with one smallie over 17″ which is a good smallie for pool 12.

The weather will be rather warm this week, but don’t count on 90s every day. We’re going into a more active pattern soon, and should see more clouds and chances for showers and thundestorms (mainly north of pool 14) starting Thursday. So, I won’t argue against the dog days slowdown, but I’m not on board with the hot and dry forecast that other forecasters are going out with these days. (notice mid 90s have been in the forecast off and on all summer, but never seem to materialize around pool 14?)…. this is my opinion that it will once again be more active, with temps generally in the upper 80s to around 90. Cheers from the soapbox talkin’ weatherman!

Bring on the rain Skyguy! How ’bout we get a steady two foot rise out on the Ole ‘Miss in the next couple weeks! Is that too much to ask for?

If weathermen are only right half the time, then a report from from skyguy and speed trollin should be right for once.

    O.K. 192 FAZER,

    I know where you live!!!!

What can I say, the T.V. stations and radio don’t alway’s go with what we’re thinking, (National Weather Service), and to be honest. Sometimes, there are just too many “variables” going to be dead on, everytime!

I will say this…Skyguy is usually dead on for hunting and fishing forecasts, when he knows what you are looking for…i.e. wind, rain, clouds, etc!

Fazer-192, is it time for the fall trip to Redwing yet???!!!???

Screw it, let’s go now, and wait for everyone else!!!!!!!

Sticking to my guns here… We are 3 days since my post and Clinton and Davenport have yet to hit 90. Ok, the rain’s still on track for this weekend and next week. It’ll either be around here, or farther north. Either way, that means better flow, and some boost in depth. For everyone’s sake, I really hope these rains hit south of Minneapolis so they can keep the flow down near 35W bridge operations. They need rains, but not in that metro right now.
